Grand Hotel, Arenzano: Old Glory

by tompt

We stayed in this hotel during a tradefair in Genoa. It is a good location to travel to and from the fair and many business people stay here during the off season.

The hotel is one of the largest buildings in Arenzano, a neo-renaissance building along the seaside. It was refurbished in 1995. The room was clean and reasonably sized. The bathroom was also clean and could be a little bigger, but a shower, toilet, bidet and fountain easily fit in.
The outside looks very luxurious, but upon entering the lobby that feeling is gone. The lobby is a large empty space with a desk. No atmosphere at all.
The two elevators are small and carry not more than two people is you have luggage with you.

The restaurant serves great food, but lacks atmosphere. The breakfast buffet served in the same restaurant was good. The usual bread, cheese and meat, sweet spreads, boiled eggs, fruit, yoghurt and cerials.

The bar is not very attractive and on top of that we had to ask at reception if somebody could serve us after waiting over 20 minutes with no person behind the bar.

Our verdict
A good hotel for a business trip to Genoa, but we would not give it the 4 stars it is.

Lunezia Resort: Secluded but comfortable

by gauravm03

Before anything I have to mention the location. It is in a place called Bibola, near Aulla. It is actually 5 KM on a small winding road up from Aulla. This road after 2 KMs turns into a gravel road for the next 3 kms. It has sharp turns and is pretty difficult to negotiate.

You can reach Cinque Terre in about 45 minutes and the beach on Forte de Marmi in about the same time

If you have still reading and can negotiate the road up, it is a great place to stay. All rooms have a double bed, a comfortable sofa bed, kitchennete, bathroom with shower, toilet and a dining table. The rooms are provided clean but there are no cleaning facilities. There is swimming pool which is pretty good and clean. Since the place is secluded there is ample parking. The owner is very nice and speaks resonable English. He sells eatable for cooking and drinks for a very small mark up on the supermarket price. This is useful since the kitchennete is well equipped with utensils, a gas stove and a fridge. There is also a barbeque you can use, although we never used it. The hotel has no meal service.

We spent 3 nights here and had a very nice time. Even though the rule was that swimming pool closes at 8PM, the owner allowed us to use it for as long as we wanted.

Since the hotel is on the hill there are very nice views of other hills and the valley.

I would recommend this hotel if you can stay away from a city without feeling bored and can do without meal service. And ofcourse you need to be a good driver.

It is pretty good value for money. We were 2 couples and paid 180 euros for 3 nights.

One negetive, I wanted to call them after we booked the hotel and tried for 3 days and different times in the day, was never able to reach them. So was pretty sceptical while going there.

Location very secluded, on a hill up a winding road
Friendly owner
Decent sized well equipped room
Good pool
Very nice views

Camere Elisabetta: Vernazza Room with a View

by tini58de

When we visited the Cinque Terre we stayed in Vernazza. We had booked a room with a spectacular view over the roofs of Vernazza. The room itself was very simple, but clean, it had a shower and (as I mentioned) this spectacular terrazza!

For a detailed review of this place, please have a look at my

Vernazza accomodation tip.

monastero Santa Croce: Monastery to stay at - south of La Spezia

by rubbersoul75

This lodging is not an option for everyone: You pretty much need a car to get there; probably will only get someone speaking Italian if you call to reserve, and it is sort of a Monastery- so respect of the facility is important.

If you are still interested- we had a great stay. Though it is a "monastery", the guests staying here far outnumbered any religious personnel. It is really set up to accommodate many guests. They have a few different buildings to stay in. We stayed in the main building. The room was very large, but minimally appointed as with other Convents/Monasteries that we have stayed at. The bathroom was newly renovated and very nice. We had a balcony with splendid view (room 52 I believe) over the sea and Italian mainland with Carrera and its marble mountains visible- see photos.

It was about 45 Euro per person per night and included breakfast, lunch, and dinner - we weren't around for lunch, the dinners sufficiently filled our bellies.

Gated secured facility with parking. It is located about 20 km south of La Spezia, in an area called Boca Di Magra, right where Liguria boarders Toscana. See the 2nd photo with satalite image of the location.

great views, some farm animals, large grounds to explore and a historic castel/chapel on the property.

General lodging tip: Rooms in Cinque Terre

by rubbersoul75

As touristy as Cinque Terre is getting, many of the rooms to stay in are not able to be reserved in advance. This is because there are very few traditional hotels (except for Monterossa al Mare) and many rooms are rented privately. Some you can find through the internet but most you still can't.

How do you find/rent these rooms? You ask around- whatever towns you are interested in staying in, head there first at the beginning of the day and ask at the cafes, restaurants, and shops. All of the towns have many rooms available, and this is how they are typically rented out.

If you are like me and like to have accommodations arranged ahead of time, this may sound risky. However, we tried asking around to see how reliable this approach is (even when we were not staying in town) and the first shop we asked was ready to take us to see a room; for a good price I might add.

Hotel Garden: Happy Beachside Hotel Near Cinque Terre

by jacsilversurfer

I loved this hotel. Our room was large and bright with views of the beachand the mountains .The shared bathroom was always clean as was our room.Damiano,Francesca and Davide are lovely people who give very helpful information to their clients.

It is a family run hotel and this shows up in the dedication of the staff. There is internet in the lobby and Davide will help you tackle Trenitalia . com. The best breakfasts ever are included with more cherries than I have ever seen.Happy atmosphere.Street outside has good cafes and the ferry leaves from down the road. The train leaves from back up the hill.

Hotel Corallo - La Spezia: Hotel Corallo - La Spezia

by diver-x

We landed in Milan in the morning and spent a couple of hours looking around, then headed toward the west coast with the intention of staying in Genova. Let me tell you, I can navigate the streets of Boston and manage to keep my sanity in the traffic, more or less. But the traffic in Genova was definitely testing my limits! And my husband was the one doing the driving! We spent a couple of hours inching along in Genova with no parking in sight and no easy escape out of town. We did manage to stop at one hotel and they were full up.

We finally found our way out sometime around 10:00 at night. We got on the toll road heading south and stopped off in several towns looking for a hotel room (no luck! All full!) before ending up in La Spezia shortly before midnight. The 2nd hotel we checked was Hotel Corallo and to our delight, they had a double room available for the night.

Unfortunately, I neglected to get a picture of the place! It was a 2 or 3 star hotel, and our room the first night did not have a bathroom, but as long as we could sleep in a clean bed, we were thrilled. They gave us a room on the street side of the building and the traffic noise was a little loud. So the 2nd night we asked for a room on the other side of the building and that one had a private bathroom. It was much quieter!

Overall, I was happy with the place. It was clean and the staff was helpful. We paid 65 Euro for the room with no bath and 85 Euro for the room with bath. That included breakfast. They have a garage available, but we found parking on the street.

Hotel Moderno Verdi: In Genova I stayed in a posh hotel

by globetrott

In Genua / Genova I stayed in that wonderful hotel, just opposite the station 'Genua Brignole'
They have quite high prices during the week and a more reasonable one at the weekend.
And when I came from back from Rome by train, Chiara organized a room for me and fixed a special rate for me..

For my single-room I payed about 70,- € , which is certainly a good price for such a wonderful hotel and breakfast-buffet.
I just checked the prices again in the web and it is 130 Euros a night, even at the weekend.

Yo may click here in order to see, where this hotel is in Genua - where Piazza Via Edmondo meets Piazza Giuseppe Verdi:
www.multimap.com - Genua / Genova

The best about this hotel is the fact that you get out of the train in Stazione Brignole, go to the right and cross a sidestreet and get into your hotel within 2 minutes.
