top of the town

We were attracted to La Torretta by it's very good website and it's descriptions and pictures do not lie. We had a beautifully clean and airy room with a sea view, but if going again we would request one of the ones with a balcony. The place was immaculate the host, Gabriele, was charming and friendly. We had fresh linen and towels every day. There was a flat screen TV and cd/DVD player but to be honest we were there to enjoy Cinque Terre so didn't even switch them on. As everyone else says the views from the terrace are great. It is very peaceful until 7am when the church bell rings the hour followed immediately by another one that rings about 35 times, no chance of a sleep-in here. There is a steep road/steps climb up from the marina and station but it's not too far and it is worth it.

Unique Quality: The views and the eclectic nouveau/antique style of decoration, though not really to my taste, see the website for some idea.

The Best View in Town

La Torretta was a fantastic find. We could not have asked for better. A great host, immaculate room, good breakfast and what has to be one of the best views in the CT!
We loved this spot.

Very nice B&B with great views

La Torretta B&B is a charming and clean B&B, recently upgraded and well maintained.
The rooms appear to be "carved" out of adjoining townhouses and are clustered around the reception and the terrace where breakfast is served.

It has a feeling of being in a little village within the village and it is very well put together.

Many rooms are not suitable for people with mobility problems, but in fairness Manarola itself is really not easy to enjoy if you have such impairments.

We had a double room with small but modern private toilet/showerroom. The room was not big but clean and the fantastic views made up for any possible shortcoming.
I could have stayed on the little balcony all day.

The room had a TV with satellite channels if you're dying to watch CNN; my suggestion is to dash to the marina whenever possible though.

The staff was helpful and polite, without being overbearing, tribute to the nature of the local people.

Breakfast was possibly the weakest point, a good cappuccino but the food was catering-quality pastries and not worth the jaw effort. Better pop into one of the local bars for a more hearthy start of the day.

All in all, a very nice B&B and a great experience, but Manarola is such a beautiful place that it would really take a stinker of a hotel to spoil the trip.

Unique Quality: Great views, unique character, helpful staff

Beautiful View

We spent 3 nights at La Torretta in early October. We (three adult females) rented the panaromic apartment. It had a small kitchen, living area with a couch that made into a bed and a bedroom with a double bed and one bath. There was a TV with sattilite so we could get CNN.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had been told that the Church Bell rang all night but it does not. It stops at 10pm and starts again at 7:00am. It is a great alarm clock.
I would stay at La Torretta again.

Unique Quality: The view from our terrace was beautiful. We looked down over the village and could see the sea.

What a find! La Torretta is convenient, charming, clean, has breathtaking views and a great breakfast. You'll have beautiful evenings sitting on the terrace overlooking the village and the Mediterrianian. Request room #5!

A Beautiful Place to Stay

by TripAdvisor Member Julianna22

This is a truly wonderful place to stay. It is quite a hike to reach this place at the top of the town, but so worth it. The views are spectacular. We had room #6 with a small terrace overlooking the town. The breakfast was great and the staff is very efficient. This town is very charming and not quite as overrun with tourists as Vernazza. I highly recommend purchasing the all-day boat pass and seeing these beautiful villages by sea as well as by land.

Incredible place

My wife and I stayed four nights at La Toretta in late July. We were expecting GREAT and received GREAT. Manarola is a bit quieter than the other towns, but you certainly feel part of the village when you stay there. All the restaurants have wonderful natural food (seafood, wonderful pesto )and great half liters of Cinque Terre white wine. Others said it was a hike to the top of the hill but we didn't think it terrible. My wife is in a knee brace and did it several times without issue. You move slower in Cinque Terre and let little issues like climbing a hill go by the wayside. The harbor area is alluring and the hiking hard but very scenic. Great way to hike two hours ----take the train back!

La Toretta was pretty with pretty bouganvillea (sp) outside our door. The room was small but certaintly adequate for naps and sleep. The view was postcard perfect from our balcony. Gabrielle was very nice to talk to as well. Breakfast was nice and different every day. Seems to be a lot of Americans staying here.

WE enjoyed: non-commercial feeling, old men and women talking to each other on benches, the cold swim in the main swimming area at the harbor, the INCREDIBLE FOOD ( Can I say it enough--reasonably priced also ), the neat other Cinque Terre towns, the soccer match ( on the stone courtyard by the church ) between two Cinque Terre hill towns where a lot of town people came out to cheer.

La Toretta and Cinque Terre - We were very pleased and have been to a lot of places. RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY

Paradise on top of the hill

by TripAdvisor Member Koochers

My husband and our friend and daughter had the pleasure of staying at La Toretta in July 05.
We cannot say enough positive comments about this bed and breakfast.
The owner Mr Baldini and his mother are the most welcoming people to their guests.
The breakfast in the morning was excellent which you ate on the terrace with views that are breathtaking.
Our room was clean and bright with a bar fridge and beautiful bathroom.
We didnt have airconditioning in the room but was able to have the french doors open at night. A ceiling fan would be a great addition.
There is so much to explore in Manarola and the other four villages but you just wanted to stay at the Bed and Breakfast and enjoy the view!
As the B&B was up by the church square we were able to enjoy some evenings watching the locals play soccer games (to hot during the day to Play)
We cant say enough about this exceptional place and hope to travel there again soon.

Amazing

When visiting Cinque Terre, this B&B is a must. It is full of charm and has a spectacular view of the ocean. We stayed in one of the suites and usually ended our long day with a bottle of Cinque Terre wine while sitting on our own porch. Gabriele was absolutely wonderful and accomodating. If you decide to stay, have dinner at "Trattoria da' Billy". We ate there every night, with a water view, during our stay...try the french fries and don't skip the pasta with pesto.

LA Torretta nice but Monterrosso is not

by A TripAdvisor Member

The inn was very spartan and extremely clean though it smelled strongly of bleach all day. It seemed like one of the nicer hotels in town but its not on the water. Their sister hotel Pasquale was in a better location to the beach.

The staff were very nice and helpful. The internet accesss was a plus for 3 euros per 30 mins. They also sold bottled water and wine, etc. in the hotel.

Definately pay a little more and get a room with a view.
