Cinque Terre Hiking Map
by MikeAtSea
One can see how close the Cinque Terre is from Portovenere. Portovenere being in the South and the villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso from South to North. Two walking paths are indicated, one in blue closer to the coast and the red one further inland. Remember to get your park entrance fees!
Portovenere

What a great and lovely place to start your cruise to the Cinque terre...
And when you see Portovenere in THAT distance, you will have a great parking, COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE - but unfortunately not " free of walk "...
:-((
But considdering the parking-fee of 1,55 € / hour near the port, you may considder to park the car in a big distance, and take a walk of maybe 30 minutes.
Architecture
by micas_pt
I find Portovenere architecture quite pleasant as houses are very colourful – mainly yellow and pink. Houses are straight and all lined up along the narrow streets.
Seen from the sea these houses provide a bright look to Portovenere contrasting with the beautiful blue water and the rock dull colour.
Boats

.
Take a look at the colorful boats or hire one :-).
If you prefer hiring a boat with driver or being ferried to the nearby islands refer to the boatmen sitting on the wharf, in front of Bar Lamia.

Locals stop and chat
by kathymof
We stopped in a little cafe to get a drink and they had a TV on that was showing sailing races where Italy was doing quite well. It was very interesting as the locals all seemed to know that there was a TV here that would be showing the races. They would stop in to just stand there and look at the TV or chat up Italy's standing with others doing the same thing. Some would order a coffee.
