 | Riomaggiore il Boma Riomaggiore Reviews | 1 - 4 of 4 | |
On our 4th visit to the Cinque Terre, in Sep 2007, instead of basing ourselves in Vernazza as usual, we stayed in Riomaggiore instead. I had a little difficulty finding suitable accommodation - we were travelling with my parents, so needed two rooms, and didn't want somewhere that had a huge number of steep steps to climb, due to my Dad's dodgy hip. In the end I decided on Il BoMa B&B, which is located on the main street of Riomaggiore, a little way up the hill. The B&B has only 3 rooms - the Blue, Yellow & Wisteria rooms. We stayed in the Wisteria and Yellow rooms. The Wisteria room is the better of the two, with an internal bathroom and large bed. The Yellow room is smaller, with twin beds and its own bathroom located out in the hall. We did manage to have a look inside the Blue room as well, and it seems this is the best room of all, with its large bed, bathroom and a tiny balcony where you can sit and watch the street below.
The B&B is on the 3rd floor of a recently renovated building, so there are a few floors of stairs to climb. The owner greeted us on arrival, showed us our rooms and gave us vouchers for breakfast, which you eat at a café just down the road, and consists of a hot drink and a couple of pastries. Il BoMa was more than adequate for our two night stay, though I would probably stay somewhere else next time - there was nothing wrong with it, just nothing very special about it either. We paid 75 euro per room, including breakfast, in Sep 2007. The rooms were nicely decorated and absolutely spotless. Breakfast was a straightforward process with vouchers at a nice cafe across the road, and the owner was as unbureaucratic and friendly as could be. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone except those who want a lie-in in the morning - there are other flats in the same staircase and, with stone floors, you can hear everyone as they get up.
Nice location over main street. Very clean. Theme: Bed and BreakfastPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Turn right out of the station & go through the tunnel. It's up the main street on the right, up a flight of stairs.Website: www.ilboma.com Other Contact: info@ilboma.it

Go up the steps to the left of the butcher sho by travelingal, 1 more photos We had reservations for our entire trip in Italy except for our Cinque Terre stay and every place I contacted was filled, so I put out an SOS on VT and was put in touch with the owner of Il BoMa. Madalena is an American living in Riomaggiore with her Italian husband and they have completely renovated a building into a lovely B&B on the main street. It is situated over a butcher shop. Madalena met us at the top of the hill and walked us down to the building, showed us our room, gave us maps, train schedules and was wonderful in answering all of our many questions. Would I recommend this place - absolutely.
We had a room with a private bathroom, but you had to actually go out into the hall and into the next door. The bathroom was wonderfully large and modern and this was not a problem for us at all. All the other rooms have ensuite bathrooms, but because we got the last room available. . . I loved our room, even though it was compact, and would even request it again as we could open our window and watch all the activity on the street. But when you closed the window - you could not hear a thing. It was extremely clean and the beds very comfortable. Although after all that hiking we could have probably slept on a bed of nails!
