This wonderful inn, adorned with pretty flowers in nooks and crannies, was a great find. It's within easy walking distance to the train station, to the centre of town and the port. The room and bathroom were bright and clean. The breakfast was adequate with lots of coffee. We found the price reasonable and appreciated the fact that three of us could be accommodated in one room. Because we stayed for three nights, we were eligible for complimentary return train tickets to Cinque Terre.
I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at this place again nor would I hesitate to recommend it. Before doing so, however, I would warn any potential guests of the bold, brassy and fearless Jane, the owner. I marvelled at how she intimidated grown men. Our 16 year old and our friends’ daughter were absolutely terrified of her. Before leaving home, I had contacted Jane to reconfirm our booking and to let her know what time our train would be arriving. Because of circumstances beyond our control with flight delays and traffic tie-ups, it was like a scene out of “The Amazing Race” to make the train on time, but we did. When we arrived at the train station at Santa Margherita, we decided to walk to the Inn, instead of taking a taxi. When we arrived 10 minutes later, Jane was all in a tizzy because we were so “late”: she remaked that it took us much too long to come from the train station and we should have taken a taxi like most people do.
The first morning at breakfast, she made it very clear that putting two tables together, so that we could have breakfast in the company of our friends, was not an option. She did, however, bend that rule for the next two mornings. (Guess she needed 24 hour notice.) Anyway, we don’t let such characters negatively affect our holidays and we still laugh at her incredulous behaviour today. And to be fair to Jane, I have read reviews where she has been very positively described.
All in all, this place has great value for the price, is well-run and is in a very convenient location.
Directions: Ten minute walk from train station.
