There is no 'Euro rail'.

Each country has its own railway system. Eurail is a ticketing agency only.

You will find train times, details and fares in English on the official Italian railway website here:

http://www.trenitalia.com/homepage_en.html

Make sure you spell 'Sestri Levante' correctly when searching.

Rome > Sestri Levante takes from around 4 to around 5 hours, depending on departure time, with a change of trains. One-way fare from 32.80 euro, again depends on departure time.

If you really wish to travel overnight there is a train leaving at 23:50 and arriving at 05:50, with a change of train at 0508.

You will find information and tips about Sestri Levante written by V members here:

Travel Tips for Sestri Levante

Sestri Levante - Liguria

by globetrott

Sestri Levante - Liguria

Sestri Levante was a village already in times of the Roman empire : It was then called " Segesta Tigulliorum "

The "Isola-Peninsula " devides Baia del Silenzio ( Bay of Silence ) and the Baia delle Favole ( bay of farytales )
------------------------------------------------------------------- Btw.: The " Bay of Farytales " got it's name by H.C.Andersen

( and he is THE expert !!! )

Baia delle Favole

by dabuwan

Baia delle Favole is on the other side of the peninsula with respect to Baia del Silenzio.
It is a much wider bay with a long (~1 km, that is long, in mountaineous Liguria) sandy beach.
In summertime it is packed with bathing huts and deckchairs, but in winter you can enjoy pleasant walks or even hang gliding from the neighbouring hills.

The ligurian Coastline seen from above

by globetrott

There is a place , up in the mountains, where you may have a great view over the Ligurian Coastline:

The small peninsula, reaching out into the sea is deviding Baia delle Favole in front and Baia del Silenzio in Sestri Levante.
In the very back will be Cinque terre on this picture, much too small to be recognized, but it might give you an idea about the special kind of cliffs on the coast, leaving only a few spots for villages to be built.

"Sestri Levante"

under the construction.

isnt lovely there?

well..if you have some friends in Sestri, you can join to a party on the beach.
People are in Sestri, they dont like that loud music,so,party will be end around midnight :-))
Actually the music will be end not the party.
you can enjoy without music, can't you? what friends for? :-)

there we are !!!
Stefano,Esther and i (i am on the middle)
noo..i wasnt drunk :-)

scampi and...

by pollon

the scampi had already been ordered before knowing the size of the courses but...

...but jenn finds some help to eat them and...

...and it's not the only help she finds... but ops the waitress was serving the bitters... the pic has to be shot again...

and jenn is getting ready for it...

action!!!

and during this action another VTer was with us, even if unfortunately only on the phone, I would like you here by person dear Geisha_Girl... we all were speaking to her on the phone and she took part to this too :-)...

what about a drink after the meal? of course again at the polpino which is packed out so pippi prepares our coktails and we go and drink them on the seashore nearby...
and typical of a VT meeting: a VTer,me, taking another VTer, johnny, shooting his pic ;-)...

is the effect of the drink??? is jenn_d showing her martial arts knowledge??? and the winner is... not the nice lady... for more particulars, read jonny_CA's report on his italy page...

to be continued in my rovereto (where we moved for the night) page...
