by robertvolp

My wife has great difficulty climbing many stirs . Is there a n elevator har train station to get near hotels?

Not that I saw. In fact, if you can't do steps very well Cinque Terre is not a place you want to go.

I agree.

There are certainly no lifts/elevators in the villages themselves. I do not recall seeing any at the railway stations.

I also agree:
someone who has great difficulty climbing stairs will be very unhappy in 5terre !
Monterosso al mare is a bit better that way !

To answer your question I believe Riomaggiore has one and I want to say I saw another being built but neither were reall near any hotels. But I agree with everyone else. CT is not the place to go if you have difficulty with upward motion. Most of the hotels themselves will have steep narrow stairs to climb too. Even in Monterrosso, which is the flatest town, someone in that situation could have some difficulty.

In Vernazza there is an elevator from the statio to the main street (about 20 steps). Ofcourse all depending where you have the hotel from the main street

Travel Tips for Vernazza

Riomaggiore

by HORSCHECK

When arriving from La Spezia, then Riomaggiore is the first village of the Cinque Terre. It is named after the river "Rivus Major" that crosses the small fishing village. From the train station the lovely village is located to the south, whereas the paved coastal path "Via dell' Amore" which leads to Manarola starts north of the train station.

The Cinque Terre Card

by lamentforicarus

The Cinque Terre Card provides a convenient way to travel between villages. Available at train stations, the card covers all train, trail, and bus fees for a one day (€5.20), three day (€12.40), or seven day (€19.60) period. The card is a great value if you plan to hike between three or more villages and use the trains. Buses run twice every hour between the villages. If traveling by train, be sure to validate your card in a yellow punch box before boarding.

The "downtown"

by Aurorae

At the peer of the "town harbour" there is a beach that people actually use for swimming although it's tiny and not so clean, and there are boats everywhere. Vernazza is not made for swimming actually. it's more interesting to stroll around, enjoy the view and observe the peculiar style of building houses on steep cliffs.

UNESCO World Heritage

by tini58de

The whole Cinque Terre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Please read what the committee wrote about their decision:

"The Ligurian coast between Cinque Terre and Portovenere is a cultural landscape of great scenic and cultural value. The layout and disposition of the small towns and the shaping of the surrounding landscape, overcoming the disadvantages of a steep, uneven terrain, encapsulate the continuous history of human settlement in this region over the past millennium." The views from our terrazza and the adventurous birthday cake story!!!

Manarola

by HORSCHECK

The coulorful houses of Manarola are situated on the end of a small hill. The medieval village is famous for its vineyards and the Cinque Terre wine. Manarola is connected with Riomaggiore by a paved coastal path called "Via dell’ Amore".
