More about Hotel Aurora

What a jewel! Hotel Aurora & Lake Como

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at the Hotel Aurora for only one night. That would be our only regret. We experienced such warm hospitality from the entire staff. When we arrived we enjoyed a glass of wine on the lake. You must eat dinner at their restuarant. The Penne Abbriata and Ricotta Ravoli in butter sage sauce were "to die for" It was reasonable too. What a great experience. We will be back!

Very nice.

Lezzeno is about a 10-15 min ride from Bellagio. It's easy to get to Varenna by train, then to Bellagio by ferry, and then to Lezzeno by bus. Be aware that bus tickets are pre-purchased at the Tobacco shop in downtown Bellagio; the bus stop is in front of the post office (marked by a yellow sign, and almost directly across from the ferry stop). Last bus is at about 7pm, and it's quite difficult to get a cab late at night on weekends. The hotel is clean, but basic 2 star. Nice view of the lake, which is gorgeous and very peaceful. The restaturant is across the street and was excellent. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel has tickets for the bus into town, but be aware that you often have to flag down the driver to make them stop and pick you up!

Worth the trek

by TripAdvisor Member tnts

While it took us almost 2 hours to drive the little roads (with construction) to the hotel, it was worth the trek. Upon arrival we were well taken care of. The family run hotel makes it a warm place to be, as they are more than helpful. We had a fairly large room with a view of the lake. The bathrooms were nice and tidy. Enjoyed the water activites and just lounging by the lake. Lezzeno is a small and quiet town, but the restaurant is an obvious attraction. Only had one night here, but was completely satisfied with the experience. Would highly recommend for an affordable place to go with the family.

Comfortable and friendly family run hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

We were given room 13, a smallish double room at the rear of the hotel - no lake view, only lush greenery of the hillside. The bed was comfortable but too large given the size of the room - left very little space for luggage. The bathroom was small but with a proper shower and quite modern.
The one thing desperately lacking was any sort of cooling - no fan or A/C, and given the hot weather we experienced this made our nights quite unpleasant.
The hotel itself is in a stunning setting and the staff are very friendly - it is family run and you can tell they all enjoy their lifestyle. Lots of watersports are available but just sitting in their bar drinking and watching the view is enough.
Basic but nice breakfast buffet included in price - be sure to ask for a cappucino!
The restaurant which is right on the lake (glorious views) has a nice menu - the food is very good and not at all expensive. We ate there 3 nights in a row and found something different and tasty to try every night!
Free parking available, no internet.
The hotel's location is picturesque although Lezzeno is not very well serviced by ferries so if you plan to do a lot of sight-seeing around the lake you may be better off in Bellagio or Como.
Rates are good value - would be very good if only it had A/C (or even a fan) in the rooms!

You won't be sorry...

My wife, 10 month old daughter and I spent a week at the Hotel Aurora. The single best feature of this hotel is Margherita. This mother of three small children runs a fabulous business. Margherita speaks fluent english and she is there every morning to greet her guests with helpful hints for things to do. We had a few special needs (given the infant traveling with us) and Margherita was always accomodating.

The room (we had room #15 which was a large corner unit with nice views of the forest and the lake). The restaurant service and food were fantastic. We ate dinner at the restaurant all 7 nights and we were never disapointed.

Logisitcs: Aurora is about three miles south of Bellagio. The road from Como to Bellagio is a bit narrow with many curves (about 45 minute drive). If you aren't renting a car, arrive by train to the North Station in Como...take the bus to Lezzeno. The bus stop is 30 feet from the Aurora.

There are "foot" foot ferry boats that pick you up on the lake shore (about 5 minute walk from Aurora). The ferry boats travel amoung all the small towns on the lake. It is a great way to see the sights of Lake Como.

I highly recommend this hotel, especially if you are traveling with children.

The Warmth of the Gregorio Family

by TripAdvisor Member Albo007

Run by the Gregorio family, which includes an award winning water skier (admire the trophies in the dining room) and Margherita Gregorio who makes the hotel a wonderful place to visit. The hotel is on the lake with a beautiful view of the water and is about a 45 minute bus ride from Como and 15 minutes to Bellagio. You get a very comfortable feeling with Margherita who acts as your counselor, travel agent, conceirege, hotel manager, bus ticket saleswoman, guide, etc. She is just an intelligent, wonderful, warm, informative, helpful person who helped make our stay delightful. There was no air conditioning except from the lake which was quite adequate. The breakfast was good and a lake ferry stops at a dock not far from the hotel. The hotel owns a restaurant across the way and a bottle of wine was waiting for us with our first night's dinner when Margherita realized that she couldn't give us the lake view promised until our second night. We were pleased to stay in Lezzeno instead of Como or Bellagio -- the people were nice, the price was good, and the view was fantastic.

Perfect Mountain Lake Retreat

If you are planning a trip to Lake Como, contact the Hotel Aurora to make your reservation today!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in early October. We have travelled all over Asia, Europe, and the US, and stayed in every type of lodging from youth hostels to 5-star resorts. We wholeheartedly agree that this is the best run hotel either of us has ever stayed at.

The hotel is owned and operated by the Gregorio family. Every family member we encountered was friendly and helpful. They understood English and even more importantly, seemed to appreciate our efforts at speaking Italian. We felt more like guests in their home than hotel customers. As other reviewers have mentioned, Margherita is fluent in English. She will give you all the tips you need for the perfect vacation.

Room 15 is magnificent. Not only is it immaculate, but unlike other European hotel rooms, it is spacious. It can sleep 3 adults comfortably for only 85 Euros, which includes breakfast. The private bathroom was spotless. Contrary to a previous reviewer’s comments, we found this to be a very quiet place. In fact, city dwellers may find it strange not to hear anything after about 9PM.

On the first night, we opted to eat at the hotel restaurant. We were unsure of what to expect since our previous experiences with hotel restaurants has been disappointing. The meal turned out to be one of the best we have ever had and certainly better than anything else in Italy. We recommend the following dishes: ravioli with pear and cheese, ravioli with ricotta and sage, penne with tomato cream sauce and mushrooms, grilled white lake fish, insalata caprese, the artichokes, and the house wine (red and white).

The hotel is in Lezzeno, which is about 5 km from Bellagio. If you arrive by train, take bus C30 (blue bus) towards Bellagio. You can buy the tickets from the newsstand inside the train station. (A note of caution, the newsstand clerk told us we had to buy tickets for our luggage but I don’t think this is required. Ask the Hotel Aurora for more accurate information). Tell the bus driver you are going to the hotel and he or she will tell you when to get off. The stop is only 10 meters from the hotel.

Bellagio is the center of the area. It is a charming town with ample restaurants and shops. It is also where you can catch the boats to other towns. Varenna, just north of Bellagio, is an absolute gem. For those interested in seeing more about Italian life and culture, this is the best bet. It is less crowded than Bellagio and there are plenty of good restaurants and cafes. The hike to the medieval castle is excellent and worth doing.

A final comment on the Hotel Aurora’s location. Lezzeno is ideal if you want to get away from it all and relax. Bellagio has some nice (and pricey) hotels but for a personal touch at reasonable prices, Hotel Aurora should be your first choice.

Wonderful place!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed a week here in September 2005. Margherita, the owner, was unbelievably kind and helpful, both in assisting us in arranging our time to make the best of our stay and in making sure we were comfortable and well looked after in the hotel. We were even transported across the lake in one of their boats! The restaurant, right on the water, served excellent food and wine at very reasonable prices, and the service was second to none! Easy access to Bellagio by bus or ferry. In all, extremely good value for money and a wonderful holiday, from one who has travelled extensively throughout the world!

Never to return...

by TripAdvisor Member Traveler610

Our family of six, well-traveled all over the world, had a terrible experience at this hotel. We had two rooms, one large and one small, one facing the water and one facing the back. This hotel sits right on the road. The Bellagio area can get extremely hot, and there were no A/Cs or fans provided. We were there on a weekend night, and the restaurant caters to many of the locals who rev their motorcylces until 2 A.M. Our rooms, with windows wide open, were exposed to every conversation, every motor, every laugh, every scream coming from the restaurant, which is across a very narrow, but busy street from the hotel. If you have children, extreme caution is advised. Margherita was extremely pleasant and her English was terrific. She apologized and said it's only that way on the weekends because the of the restaurant hours, but that is when we happened to stay there. No sleep, stifling tempertures, and unbelievably loud entertainment until that late in the evening made us hurry out of this hotel. We ended up at the Hotel Bellagio which was and quiet.

We stayed here for 5 nights and would loved to stay longer. Not only is Lake Como a picture postcard, but Margherita and her family who run this establishment couldn't have been any more helpful!!
Have dinner at their restaurant on the lake and have the pear raviolli, you won't regret it!
We will definately be back

lezzeno/bellagio to bergamo airport - early

by rhubbard

We are a family of four and will be staying in Lezzeno, near Bellagio, at the end of October. We need to make it back to Bergamo airport on Monday 27th October for a 10am flight home (so need to get to the airport around 9am). Is it possible to make it to the airport this early on public transport - we had hoped not to have to hire a car during our stay.

Thanks very much

You don't say where 'home' is but I suggest you get to the airport before 9am. Getting through check-in/security anywhere in Europe can take time, and it is best to allow for this.

This page (offical airport website) gives you public transport details and links for the airport:

Well, it's going to be tight but it can be done.

Your first bus leaves Lezzeno at 05.33 traveling to Como FS (the train station you want) arriving 06.23.

If you're lucky and have bought your tickets in advance you might be able to catch the 06.25 to Bergamo arriving 08.19 with one change at Monza.
If not,the next one is 07.28 arriving 08.44 again with a change at Monza.

All train options can be found at

The frequent bus for the airport is directly outside the station entrance and takes 15mins.
