Bellagio to Parma - Early morning

by holliegsf

We are traveling from Bellagio early on the 15th to arrive in Parma by 9-9:30am. Is this possible given we have to take both a ferry and a train? I can't find the earliest ferry departure time and not sure how long it takes to arrive at the nearest train station.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

First the ferry, then a local train from Varenna to Milano Centrale, then the fast train to Parma,,,quite unlikely that you will reach the detaination fefore 10:34 am. Check the websites:

http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm (for train schedules Varenna to Parma)

if you want to be at Parma for 9:00-9:30 it might be hard..

here the timetable of ferry
http://www.navigazionelaghi.it/eng/com/ora_estivo_2010/nlc_ora_t1a_e.html
it takes 15minutes from Bellagio to Varenna and first boat it's at 6:20 and it should be the one you have to take it as the one at 7:15 it could be too late.
then from Varenna take a train to Milan Centrale and from there to Parma
here for timetable and buying train ticket.
http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html
also the boat ticket has to be bought before you go up, it's better to get them the day before, also for trains so you'll go straight (actually choose ticketless, it's an electonic ticket)

an other way could be a taxi to Milan Centrale, usually it takes 1h30m but it will be rush hours so it's easy it will take more.
The boat trip should be 15minutes but if for some reason it will leave late... but in this case you could take a taxi to Varenna, straight to railwaystation so you avoid the boat.

Thank you for your tips! Looks like the only way it will work is a cab from Bellagio to Como and then the train to Milan and on to Parma.

I would not waste time for a cab to Como, I would go to Varenna and from there to Milan Centrale, the station in Milan where to take the train to Parma.
Como has station of "ferrovie nord" and they do not go to Milan Centrale.

Travel Tips for Bellagio

Hotels

by Aurorae

All along the lakeside there are numerous hotels, in beautiful earthly shade colours, but also bright ones, like pink, red and yellow. They are very expensive, but as Bellagio is quite a pompous place, that is to be expected. Nonetheless, they are very beautiful and give a cheerful disposition to the place.

Hillside view

by Aurorae

When you're arriving to bellagio you'll face this beautiful view, of the town scattered on the hills over the lake, all in fantastic colours, and beautiful Alps behind. Stop for a while and admire the view! :)

Bellagio Tourist Office

by Openseas

Bellagio’s tourist office is located at the Piazza Mazzini.

Opening Hours - 9am - 6pm. (siesta 12-3pm) during summer months. (Daily)

Opening Hours - 9am - 6pm Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri and Sat. Winter Months.

Lecco

by Aurorae

Lecco is another beautiful town easily reachabke from Bellagio, either by ferry or car. There is also a bus but I wouldn't recommend that, it's long and a hassle. Lecco is the biggest town in the area, together with Como. it numbers more than 50.000 souls and it's an economical and cultural center as well. The lakeside and the center as especially beautiful, and the hiking in the mountains behind unforgettably thrilling! Check out my Lecco page for more!

Milan to Bellagio - car.

by Openseas

Distances.

Milan to Bellagio by car 75 kilometres from Milan.

Just use the autobahn and don't miss the turn-off, if you do its better to go back than attempt the road along the lake from Lake Como to Bellagio. Its takes approx 1hour and is very hairy with tight bends and curves although the scenery is spectacular.
