A room with a view

We loved the Hotel Metropole Bellagio. The location was terrific, the staff were all very friendly and helpful (Quattrocento quarantanove - I finally got it!), the rooms were comfortable and clean and the price was very reasonable.

Our room (449) was located on the corner of the fourth floor, facing the lake. We had a nice little balcony that allowed us to sit and watch the boats scurry across the lake and the sun dance across the water. It was really quite nice.

There is a breakfast room that served a very nice breakfast with lots of choices from cereals to fruit to hot eggs and sausages. There is a restaurant on the terrace where you can enjoy your meals while sitting next to the lake. The bar area serves up some delicious afternoon proseccos while you do some people watching.

We intend to return to Bellagio and will definitely stay here again. I have no hesitation in recommending it to others at all. Go and enjoy.

Unique Quality: The most outstanding feature of the hotel was its location. Perched right on the waterfront, it offered great views, easy access to everything nearby and it was also right by the ferry piers.

There is also a sundeck on the roof where you can relax and soak up the sun or just sit and enjoy the tremendous views of the town and the lake.

LAKESIDE VIEW.

We stayed at the Hotel Metroplole for one night, at the end of the season.
The room was in need of modernisation, and the hotel was in the process of carrying out refurbishment, it was due to be closed at the end of the week.
We chose this hotel in particular as it was the only one which boasts a lake side view.
The view from our balcony, of Lake Como was spectacular as was the sunset, sheer magic.
Breakfast was ok, something for most palettes.

Unique Quality: The views are spectacular from a lakeside room. well worth paying the extra for this facility.

A Waterfront masterpiece

We stayed at the Metropole due to reviews on other sites. We were not disappointed, as it’s truly is a waterfront property. After a long drive from Milan getting lost many times, we finally arrived around 9pm. Staff were very welcoming and laughed after hearing our story about the LENGTHY drive. They told us we had come into Bellagio the wrong way and actually there is a much shorter drive from Milan …..Minus the endless single windy lanes around Lake Como, (An Amalfi Coast experience).

Our room 226 was on the 2nd floor with direct water views of this stunning area. The room was very basic but comfortable with a double bed, two small bedside tables, mini bar, desk, and two French doors leading to a small balcony. The bathroom was again basic but clean and spotless.

The rooms below us had fabulous terraces and I wished we had booked one of those. If staying here make sure you book one of these and validate your booking, as I was under the impression I had actually booked a terrace room. (too tired to argue!)

Staff are very friendly, helpful and polite. The lifts are small but are in good working order. We found no noise regarding ferries. The views are outstanding and you are basically a few metres from the water. The building is basically Italian in style and needs some more renovations done in the breakfast and lobby areas, both are looking a little tired.

Breakfast was simple and offered a basic but sufficient breakfast but to me the coffee was terrible which came from a machine. I would have preferred a fresh hot pot of Italian coffee. Luckily, I had brought with me a little travelling kettle and opted to have a cuppa on my balcony.

Unique Quality: The best thing about this hotel is the location. It’s on the flat within a few seconds to many wonderful little cafes and restaurants. It’s a short walk to Hotel Serbelloni and to the steps up to the romantic village of Bellagio. The little town is full of interesting shops, and is truly gorgeous and quaint with petite cobble lanes and steps meandering through the wonderful display of historic houses. (It reminded us of the Italian town Assisi)

The ferry to other locations around Lake Como can be located just two minutes from the hotel.

We had a lovely meal at Hotel Florence and also had a very expensive meal at the Hotel Serbelloni which was okay but really not worth the money.

I have given this hotel a 5 star rating for its truly wonderful waterfront location and value for money.

Views to die for at a great price

We arrived at a hotel in crisis - the phone system had been struck by lightning and a busload of German tourists had disappeared from contact in consequence, but the staff never let their friendliness and efficiency slip for a second. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable - in many places the Metropole would be claiming another star. Breakfast coffee was pretty dreadful - the only blot and quickly dealt with when we asked the waiter for fresh coffee instead of the stuff from the dispenser.
Some reviews had suggested that we might find the noise of the ferries disturbing - maybe we were just tired but we barely heard a thiing. The side rooms might be a bit more noisy but ours was very quiet.

Unique Quality: The views, the views, the views. The front of the hotel drops straight into the lake and most of the rooms have balconies over the water.

Cheap, clean, comfortable and views to die for

We found the Hotel Metropole after our first three choices were still closed for the winter. Bellagio is a summer resort and many of the hotels and restaurants don't open until April - we were travelling in March. And they were labouring under a disadvantage when we got there - the phone system had been struck by lightning so the office was full of telephone engineers for the two days of our stay and messages had to be taken from room to room by the heroic lone receptionist (one of her colleagues was in London for the winter and the other had had a baby the previous week). Through it all she smiled and was friendly and efficient with any information we asked for at her fingertips. This is a fairly basic three star hotel - most of the guests were german pensioners on coach trips while we were there - and breakfast isn't the best ever. But every room has a view, and most of them are stunning. The hotel is the only one actually on the lake - its the building on the right of the piazza in every postcard of Bellagio you ever see - and the balconies hang out over the water. We were afraid that there might be noise from the early morning ferries but if there was it didn't wake us. The beds were firm and comfortable, the bath capacious and the shower a perfect temperature. The friends we were travelling with even managed to get two different views - one like ours across to Cadenabbia and another north the whole length of Lago di Como.
If you decide to stay there - and we recommend it - ask the waiter at breakfast if he will get you a cup of real cappucino instead of the stuff from the machine. It makes all the difference.

Unique Quality: Bellagia is a town people go to for two things - the shopping and the views. Because its right by the lake you carry your shopping back down the steps - and that can be a real benefit. We shopped so much that it would have been hard work to carry it all up hill. And the views were utterly magic, even though clouds came on our second day.
If we'd been there in better weather we might have tried out the sun deck on the roof but by the time we had opportunity the sun was in hiding. The lakeside bar is a lovely venue for an evening drink.
Our double room had a good extra bed so it would have been a great value family room.

All Rooms Have a Lake View!!!

The Hotel Metropole enjoys one of the most panoramic locations in Bellagio. The Metropole is several stories high and each room has a lake view either directly from the front or the side. Some rooms have balconies or even better, terraces. If this isn't enough, the hotel has a Sun Roof Terrace with loungers, and umbrellas if you just can't get enough of the view from your room. The hotel's other many amenities include a Terrace Restaurant, Breakfast Room, Bar and veranda, and Ice Cream Trolley.

Some rooms are small and I wouldn't call the decor of the rooms lavish by any stretch of the imagination, but with a view like this, and at a reasonable price too, what more can you ask for!?! When I went in to get information on the hotel, it was obvious that it needed redecorating as well, and even though I think hotel lobbies ARE important spaces for guests, it is still the rooms that count.

A full buffet breakfast with ham, eggs, salami, cereals, yogurt, pastries, rolls and hot & cold beverages are all included. Sounds great to me! Room service is available from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30pm. Laundering services can be arranged, and international newspapers are available for us news junkies. Shopping, tourist info. and transportation are just steps away.

The hotel has on-line specials which I tend to think are quite reasonable given the hotel's fabulous location. Check for current pricing and off-season specials.

Unique Quality: The exquisite location of this hotel in the heart of historic and beautiful Bellagio's lakeside make this hotel an excellent choice. Ask for a room with a balcony or terrace to extend the pleasure even further. The buffet breakfast is appealing and the lakeside terrace restaurant, and the rooftop terrace just are fantastic!

Recommend the Metropole

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from a week at the Metropole in Bellagio.Great position, fantastic views, good service.
We had a room on the second floor with a lake view and balcony.Yes the two rooms on the first floor with large terraces are obviously the best but we were very happy with our room.It was a little small but perfectly adequate with a great balcony and freshly decorated. The bathroom was perhaps in need of updating but was clean and the supply of fresh towels could not be faulted. It was very hot the week we were there and even though our room did not have air conditioning the overhead fan in our room worked beautifully keeping the room cool.
The staff were friendly and efficient and the restaurant overlooked the lake in the best position in Bellagio. We loved it.
The public rooms are perhaps just a little faded but this somehow adds to the charm of the place. We looked at other hotels in Bellagio but were glad we decided on The Metropole and would recommend it, and would certainly go back.
La Pergola restaurent at Pescallo was also wonderful at lunchtime, so beautiful overlooking the water and great food.

Great Place to Stay in Bellagio!

by TripAdvisor Member Traveltracy

Thanks to Martina we are lucky to have stayed here. She works the front reception and was able to book us pretty much last moment with a terrace over the lake. She was very kind to us both when we arrived and during our stay. She even recalled our phone conversation upon our arrival. What a memory since they see so many guests. We loved our room and view. The room is sort of small but the huge terrace was like having a large outdoor living room so we did not care. The bathrooms are a little small with no where to put your personal toiletries accept the floor and shower is tiny. The breakfast is not that exciting but acceptable. The hotel and rooms are very clean and you cannot ask for a better location anywhere in the Bellagio area. The good restraunt here is Far Out. It is new I think and very hip with great food and service. We liked better than Bilacus which is always suggested. La Grotta is the best for a simple pizza and so is Pizza Antico. A fun place for drinks and atmosphere is The Divine Comedy Bar! You will have a great laugh there. Also there is a water taxi company that can take you to Villa Balbianelo (the location of the Star Wars movie/Clones). It is gorgeous! Metropole we will definitely be back! Thanks Martina, you are the best!

by TripAdvisor Member lingo

i am just returned from the Hotel Metropole in Bellagio and would like to thank the staff of the Metropole Hotel in Bellagio for making my stay such an unforgettable one, they were very nice to us from this first time we put our feet through the door. It is only a 3 star hotel but it is definately the best value for money hotel in Bellagio - i should return here again next Summer but the next times stay maybes a little longer! My advice is to stay at least 1 week in Lake Como as there is many things to see and doing.

Hey, Jersey neighbor - you are going to love bellagio - will you have a car or be using the ferries and trains? I am sure you have researched but may I suggest visiting the remarkable pages of aurorae for villa carlotta and some of the other attractions. Send my regards. >--!
