I was in Bergamo June 2007. I was only there for one night, it as a stop for a flight heading to Paris. I stayed at the International Youth Hostel. There is only one in Bergamo and it is great. Very, Very clean and nestled in the mountain. I went up to Citta Alta and it was beautiful, unfortunaly the weather wasn't! It was grey with heavy rains but you could still see the beauty. Sorry I don't have any names of hotels, but Bergamo is a bella city ... to be visited.

Most of the province’s cultural events take place in the city. Concerts staged in the Donizetti Theatre and painting exhibitions in the Accademia Carrara, among Italy’s best art galleries, are major events. The city also has theatre and concert seasons, including the Donizetti Festival held each September, and a series of Baroque music concerts presented in its churches (generally held each October). Other events are:
- Feast of Sant’Antonio Abate, which includes the blessing of carts and farming tools (17 January)
- Bergamo’s summer festival ‘Estate vivi la tua città’ (June–September)
- Trade show (October–November)
- Antique market (third Sunday of every month)
- The holiday of the city’s patron saint which includes a huge produce and livestock market (26 August)
Cornello, home of the modern postal service
by barrikello
Cornello is a wonder. It's a small village in the Brembo valley (around 35 kms from Bergamo) where all the motorized vehicles are banned. Cornello was the birthplace of one famous italian family: the Tasso, to whom belonged the illustrous poet Torquato and the founder of the modern express postal delivery service named 'Thurn und Taxis' under the sacred empire. Then, the modern 'taxi' name originates from the Tasso family.

It's plenty of busses to go around Bergamo, to Milan or just to the various paeselli nearby.
The bus station is closed to the train one and there will be a new one soon.A recent italian movie(lo scippo) describes the lifes going on around the old bus stations lifes of drug addicts, prostitutes, transvestites, homeless, taxi drivers and.......donne in corriera!
One to miss
by Tommo5226 about Bar Campanella SAS di Bertoli, Bergamo Alta
Just as we entered the square in the Upper Town, we spotted what looked to be an attractive typical Italian restaurant and decided to give it a try.
The meal we chose consisted of 1 x beef with mashed potatoes and 1 x omelette with chips.
The service was slow and the dishes were quite unattractive. Each was accompanied by a single of piece of "undressed" lettuce.
With a bottle of coke and 1/2 litre of house wine, the bill came to 25.50 euros.
