Hotel recommendations

by Redang

Hi everyone:

Is there any area in Bergamo I should avoid regarding the hotel? I look for a place close to the centre, station and bus/train to/from Orio airport (maybe it's a too obvious question)

I've been doing research for a trip in September and havent found anything to suggest the train station area is one to avoid (just the usual observations about areas around train stations). I have chosen a hotel directly across from the train station - mainly because I'll be arriving on a late flight into Orio, and the airport bus stops outside the train station so I'll only have to walk across the street. Details below, can't give a personal recommendation yet, but the reviews I've read are mostly good.

So, I understand the bus stop from/to Orio Airport is close to (or at) the train station? Thanks for the info.

Yes, the airport shuttle goes to Bergamo train station. Looks a decent service for both early and late flights - have a look at this link for times/prices:

Thanks again

My wife and I have stayed in this hotel on 4 occasion as it is directly across the road from the train station. Very clean, efficient, multilingual staff and business breakfast. Shuttle bus fron the airport stops at the train station opposite the hotel. Many restaurants (MacDonalds 50 metres if you like) in the area and a regular bus service to Citta Alta.

Travel Tips for Bergamo

Catch as many views as...

by josie13

Catch as many views as possible. Climb the Torre del Comune and behold the beautiful sight. This 12th century tower is located in the Piazza Vecchia in the upper town of Bergamo. Its clock and curfew bell played an important part in Bergamo's history. The bells were tolled every night at 10pm to remind the people of Bergamo that the gates to the city were going to be closed, during the Venetian rule. Seeing all those buildings with red roofs against the green mountains.

Packing List

by Bergamo2000

Bergamo, the province of Pope John XXIII, deserves to spent a day for visit the great numbers of churches that there are in the town. You must photograph them and you'll have a really picture of the land for your
memory of the holiday.

The 'Funicolare'

by barrikello

The funicolar is the best way to reach the old town (cittý alta), allowing the tourists a fast access to it and the old town not to be submerged by cars. It does not do any stop. The funicular was built in the year 1886 and it has a length of 230 meters, climbing 83 meters of height (about 40% gradient). From the cabin it's possible to enjoy the beauty of the modern town lying on the plain and, with a very bright day, the sight extends untill MIlan and the Alps. The ticket costs 0.95 euros and it's possible to use the same ticket used to reach the lower station (through bus number 1).

Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport

by Pakistaniguy

This is me :-) before getting onto my Wizz air flight to Katowice i decided to take a self pic of me. It was a chilly morning and i covered my head with typical Pakistani cap which is ideal for such weather :-)

Btw, if u want to benefit from best fares of all the airlines flying to Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport you must go to their websites and look for the promotional fares or offers. Try to book in advance and i am sure u will be able to fly cheaper than a taxi :-)

Pizza snacks

by nina_z about there are a number in the Citta Alta

In the streets of the Citta Alta and perhaps even elsewhere in Bergamo (can't confirm form own experience) you'll find bakeries that apart form bread also sell pizza snacks - they're pizzas with different ingredients on top baked in large pieces. The dough is also not the classical pizza style thin. You juts point to the one you like and they cut a piece from it with special scissors. They make an excellent take away Italian style snack.
