Can anyone give me information on the cheapest private transfer from Bergamo airport to the small town of Gargnano on the west side of lake Garda. I will be travelling with my husband in July and have checked some taxi sites but they seem very expensive for just 2 people. I believe there are also shuttle buses but I wonder if they stop at lots of stops, making the journey perhaps a bit uncomfortable. Many thanks

From the airport, take the shuttle bus to Bergamo railway station and from there, take the train to Brescia. Come out of Brescia Station, and 200 meters in front on the left, take the bus to the lake. The last stop is Gargnano
You will have to ask for the bus number - I don't know it.

It's line S202
timetables(in italian only) here:

Are you really looking for a "private transfer"? You're looking at a trip of about 100 kilometers (60 miles), and any private transfer company is going to have to charge you double (once for the trip, and once for the limo or taxi driver to get back home).

There is a bus from the airport to Brescia, but you're not going to find any direct route to Gargnano. And the bus direct to Brescia doesn't run very often (just 5 times a day), which is why the routing given to you above makes sense (the train runs a lot more often).

it's not just a matter who does cheaper, it's who does the transfer

Travel Tips for Bergamo

You've must seen the old...

by HalewijnKuyp

You've must seen the old city, its really nice and silent. Its ideal to walk around the walls of the old city and have a beer in one of the bars. The Food!!!And the snowboarding, its only a 40min drive to glacier area.

Forza Atalanta

by chrismj

You can usually find Atalanta at the bottom of Serie A or the top of Serie B. It's a good place to enjoy the irrational passion that is football, and it's as good a provincial Italian cultural experience as anything else.

The atmosphere is good, especially from the always-packed Curva Nord side of the ground.

Cheapest tickets are 6 euro. The obvious ticket windows aren't usually open any more. Go to the south side and they are probably selling tickets from an office through a window. You have to have ID for each ticket you buy. Curva Sud or Parterre would be my recommendation, Curva Nord if you are feeling brave. Tickets for children(and women!) are half price for all areas except the Curvas.

From Orio al Serio to Bergamo

by Mahieu

You can catch the bus for 0,95 € from the Orio Al Serio airport to the lower town of Bergamo, until the bus station.
From there on, you can easily walk to the funicular to get you to the upper town. (it's always straight ahead)
Another option is taking a second bus to get you into upper town.

Senso Unico

by sim1

The old city is a maze of small one-way-streets, it took us quite long to find the way to our hotel, which was right in the city centre. Hahaha, we got totally crazy by the signs of "sensa unico" which means "one way street". We were sure the hotel was to the left..... but we weren't allowed to go there, grrrrr, very frustrating. So after driving around the city about twenty times, we started to do some ghost-driving (pssst, please don't tell anyone). Hahaha, when we told Titti what we did she looked at us in amazement.... "you can't go that way!" She said. Yes you can, hahaha, it is just not allowed :-)

the finest food in bergamo

by montana32 about baretto di san viglio

by far the best food in bergamo can be found here, the waiters are knowledgeable and helpful and speak very good English (about the only place in town!) i would say this place is equivalent to a Michelin 1 star but for comparatively fair prices
its location is beautiful too right by the san viglio funicular.
N.B. i have been there 5 times and 4 times it was fully booked so try booking in advance
a 3 course meal for two with wine costs about £80 sterling about $140 USD

p.s. went in for a drink on our latest trip
see below for the selection of bar snacks the waiter gave us for nothing ,ok its 1 euro a beer more expensive here but you get what you pay for
enjoy everything here was gorgeous ,but if forced i would say the lobster ravioli, historic to say the least
