    Good budget option

    by

Now known as Casa Vacanze Centrale, we stayed in his budget option for our trip in March 2012.

Conveniently located just 4/5 blocks off Via Papa Giovanni XXIII, this converted apartment-cum-B&B offers freedom for those wishing to have a good location with the use of a kitchen to keep the stay cheaper.

The B&B was clearly once an apartment which has been converted into one twin room with en suite facilities with a further twin and triple room having use of a shared shower room. All three rooms have use of the kitchen where breakfast items including cereal, milk, yoghurt, bread, tea and coffee can be found (although, I didn't find these to be well replenished during our stay).

The triple room benefits from access to the apartment's large balcony - which gives further options to those staying in that particular room.

During our stay we were originally located in the twin room with shared facilities (after being offered the choice of the twin or triple) but after three nights, we were offered (and accepted) transfer to the twin with en suite. Unfortunately, whilst having en suite facilities, it also adjoins the shared shower room which can be disturbing when fellow B&B guests are showering back-to-back at 02:00 and 03:00am (which was our experience for our last two nights)!!!!

Unique Quality: Your experience here will be very much influenced by your fellow guests. Our first three nights, when we were located in the twin room using shared facilities, were very pleasant and we were not really aware of our fellow guests, apart from our first night when we could vaguely here some voices from the adjoining room (which had en suite facilities).

Unfortunately, our fourth and fifth nights couldn't have been further from that experience; it was clear we had been joined by a group of young adults who, on their first night, sat drinking on the balcony - quite quietly until 02:00am when they decided to retire - each taking a shower in the shared facilities which were adjacent to our room. The following morning they were up at 07:30 making breakfast and having shouted conversations between the shared shower room and the kitchen - quickly rectified by a swift 'talking to'. Our last night had them chain-showering until 03:30!!!

I hope you will experience more considerate fellow guests if you choose this option - or better still, have a large group and take the whole 'apartment' for yourselves!

Directions: From Via Papa Giovanni XXIII, turn right at Porta Nuova along Via G Camozzi. Via Casalino is 4/5 blocks along on your right, the B&B located just a short distance down. The entrance to the apartment block has a small sign indicating it's presence.

Ski Resorts in Bergamo

by SPitch

A friend and I have booked flights at the end of February for a couple of days skiing, however we're struggling to find accomodation for just the two nights.

Obviously with only being there short while, we dont want a long transfer time from Bergamo airport.

So, which resort would you recommend, how can we get there and any ideas of where to stay?

Thank you for your help with this.

The nearest ski resort is probably Castione della Presolana, just 45 km (28 miles) from Bergamo. The name of the mountain is Monte Pora. I suggest you start your search by googling these names.

too short a time....Bornio or St Moritz...easy to get to but half a day to get there. Not much snow elsewhere unfortunatly

Re: Ski Resorts in Bergamo

Yesterday most of the slopes were open. Of course the snow conditions can change a lot from now to the date of your trip.

Madonna di Campiglio - just call the tourist office in the resort and you can use their transfer services from and to Bergamo Airport.
Just over 2 hour transfer time.
4 metres of snow at the top and 1/2 metre in the village right now.

Thanks for your replies.....

We had been looking at Montecampione, however can't seem to find out if we would be able to Ski, or where we could stay?

Any ideas on this area, or are we better off going further afield, such as Madonna di Campiglio and having more chance of actually getting on the slopes....?

Hi,

I am booked for Bergamo for next weekend. I was thinking of skiing in Castione della Presolana. Is this the best place close to Bergamo? How is the after ski in Castione della Presolana? Are there any pubs, night life etc? Or would it perhaps be better to stay the night in Bergamo and just spend the day skiing in Castione della Presolana?

Saluti
Joakim

I confirm that also now the opportunities for skiing in Castiglione della Presolana are excellent. All the slopes of Monte Pora are fully operative, as well as the Snow Park.

Etxibec, I have answered your question in another posting.

Visit Citta' Alta

Citta' Alta means upper town and it's the oldest part of Bergamo, build mainly during the Middle Age.

The core of Citta' alta is Piazza Vecchia, see it in the picture below.

There are lot of restaurants in this square: they're nice and you can enjoy cool typical dishes but they're quite expensive.

Going from Piazza vecchia to the Cathedral.

Nice people! They (bergamaschi) are very fond of their land and traditions and tourists from abroad can note this. Bergamaschi love tourists if tourists love and respect Bergamo! Tipping at restaurant is ... a rule if you think of coming back again!
Unfortunately Bergamo is'nt an international town so Bergamaschi speak only a little other languages.

When you visit Bergamo you must see also the surroundings of the town. Here you'll find lakes, hills and mountains and depending on the seasons you can go to an alpine lake or to lago d'Iseo or go to the Arlecchino's village or play golf. Funiculari/Funiculars

There are two funiculars in Bergamo:

- One of them links the Città Bassa/Lower City with the Città Alta/Upper City. The stop in the Lower City is on Viale Vittorio Emanuele II (pics first and second).

- The other funicular lonks the Città Alta/Upper City with the Castello San Vigilio (pics third to fifth).

A nice and cosy restaurant in the heart of the old town. There's an outdoor patio with heating system, so even if it's a bit cool you can eat outside. The location is really charming. polenta - the local speciality. A simple meal of grinded corn cooked slowly, and for a long time, with water and milk. It's good with everything: cheese, mushrooms, meat.
