Parking in Bergamo

by kanevsky

I'm looking for a cheap, convenient and safe parking near funicular, where I will be able to park a car for a day in August. Will somebody be able to help me?

Re: Parking in Bergamo

by montana32

there are some proper car parks in citta bassa maybe 5 minute walk from the funicular
we have stayed in apartments close to the funicular twice and parking the hire car was nigh on impossible without taking a chance and double parking even with a permit from the apartment owners
also be aware that most parking spaces are designed for small cars
kind regards anthony

Travel Tips for Bergamo

by sandysmith

Bergamo, a lovely italian walled city, founded on a hill by a very old settlement in the protohistoric age. It still retains this configuration, giving the upper town its special character - the oldest part of the town, enclosed within walls, lays up on the hill while the modern centre has developed on the plain.

Family visits to the Basilica

by irisbe

As in many catholic countries it is not uncommon to take your kids to the church or in this case the Basilica for a visit.

One of the most favourite things to do, as I can remember from my own childhood as well, is when you are allowed to burn a candle.

No different with the kids on the picture who visited and were very eager to lit theirs and make a little prayer or wish.

Daytrip to Brescia

by Redang

I recommend to visit Brescia for a full day. It takes around one hour to go there by train.

Pic: I know that the pic is not too good, but it was what I saw from the train on the way to Brescia.

I haven’t seen them driving around that much, actually less then I would have expected.
Yet they can be a nice alternative for a car if you want more freedom to move around the city.
The best options are of course the bus or the funicular, but then you are bound to their schedule. With a scooter you can leave when you want too.
A bicycle, that is more environmental friendly, will ask for quite some good physical condition to get you up the hill.

The scooters have their own parking spots as you can see at the picture.

typical food

by juzz about La Colombina

This is a small restaurant but it's one of my favourite restaurants in my town. It has also some tables on a terrace with a breathtaking belvedere on the flat. It can be very romantic, with the right company of course! My favourite dishes in this restaurant are:
"casoncelli", typical ravioli from Bergamo, with bacon and melted butter
"foiade", another typical kind of pasta, fery often served with "porcini" mushrooms.
In my opionion you should taste "valcalepio" wine, typical from this part of italy.
