Travel to Italy
Can anyone recommend a basic decent hotel and decent local eatery in Bergamo. Thereafter I'm going to Florence and plan to visit 2-3 other Tuscan towns. I had Siena and Lucca in mind. Can someone corroborate this choice or perhaps make other recommendations.

I hope this helps: There is a nice 3* hotel in Bergamo - Hotel Miramonti, with fantastic views. Rooms cost approx. 75 euros per night

hi! the friendly poster above gave you good advice! :) I stayed with a good friend in Bergamo, can't speak about hotels. BUT there was a very nice-looking restaurant (didn't eat there myself) near Piazza Vecchia in Città Alta, called Da Mimmo.
I just went to their site (there's an English site button) and they offer lodgings near the restaurant, pics are shown, it looks good and prices are right. Check it out if interested:

I ate at a little restaurant in an alley in Città Alta, authentic regional cuisine. But I had taken the apéritif just before right on Piazza Vecchia, it was super atmospheric and if I returned, I'd like to have dinner there too!

I loved Siena, haven't been to Lucca, but some prefer it to Siena. I think if you can, go to both.
