After I booked it, I found some bad reviews for this hotel on the web. they didn't really seem meritted to be. Although it doesn't seem like the four star hotel it claims to be, I wasn't really paying four star prices, so I was happy. It is a fair distance from the lake, but is relatively easy to find, and once you know your way about you can walk to the lake in about 20 minutes. The staff were pretty friendly, and taught me some Italian.

Hotel Como is too far from 4-stars standards
The detailed description of my reservation was: "Standard Rate High Season SUITE Bedroom and Sitting Room Shower and Bath Tub". I was unpleasantly surprised when it occured that the suite is, in fact, one ROOM, particularry separated by wall without door!
Unique Quality: The air conditioning system is old fashioned and not effective. This is important since the summer in Italy is hot.
The massaging cabin in the bathroom was out of use. Something more - the button was broken and there existed a real danger of short-curcuit in the wet bathroom!
The rooms are dark due to the impossibility the jalousies to be open.
