How to get to Como from Bergamo (Orio) Airport late at night?

by Busnsandpleasure

Hi - looking for help. My flight arrives Bergamo at 2100 hrs and although I can get into Bergamo / Milan easily by bus / train, getting to Como at that time from either of these places is proving tricky since the trains appear to stop at around 2200 (I'll still be making my way from Bergamo at that time).

There are transfer options but these are expensive at around 150 euros. There don't seem to be any buses to como at that time - any advice please?

Thanks

The official Italian railway site in English:

http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html

gives these options:

a later train (23:02) from Bergamo which will get you with a change at Milan Centrale to Como San Giovanni station.

a train + bus option from Milano Nord Cadorna to Como Nord Borghi station at 2235

a suburban train from Milan Porta Garibaldi to Como San Giovanni at 2238

another train + bus option from Cadorna at 2343 and a train from Milan Centrale at 0038 to Como SG.

Select the departure and click 'details by selection' to see all the info in English about any particular journey.

Only the Le Nord trains that go to Como Lago (in the town center) stop early, around 10pm. The ones that the previous poster described are the Italian Railways trains that run until very late, with the last train leaving usually around midnight from Milan. Prices are the same and Como San Giovanni train station is still quite close to the city center and downhill.

Travel Tips for Como

duck chicks

by Aurorae

There are so many ducks on the lake (I'll mention that a few times :)) But the little ones are the cutest! If you're lucky to see the chicks floating or walking behind the mother it's so funny! As soon as I approached, the little ones rushed to their mother's feathers, and sailed off to the Como lake together!
Children adore to play with them...

Villa Olmo Facade

by Aurorae

"The neoclassical inspiration of Simone Cantoni fully manifests itself in the design of the villa's facade; a central body with five wide entrances in the median zone, above which rise six Ionic style columns. The roof of the villa is surronded by a balustrade interrupted by a large coat of arms of the Visconti di Modrone dukes. Especially striking is the great number of windows which give light to every room and which provide views of the lake and the garden of incomparable natural beaty. "

Lace trees

by Aurorae

All around the lake there are these funny lace alike trees, I'm not a botanic so I have no idea what's their name (I never see them at home either!) but they are so impressive to me, especially when covering the lakside promenade.

Como's celebrities

by Aurorae

"Caio Plinio, a naturalist and a scientist who was the author of the famous "Naturalis Historia", Plinio "the young", a politician and a literate, Paolo Giovio, a historian and bishop of Nocera, Pope Innocenzo XI and Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the battery. Inventiveness and initiative have always been the innate endowment of the people living in Como. In the archtectural field we must not forget that from our lake and from the nearby areas used to come the Maestri Comacini, that starting from the Medieval period, they used to be builders both in Italy and abroad. The construction of the majestic Cathedral (il Duomo di Como), that has been built thanks to the genius of the Maestri Comacini, was beguin in 1396 and continued for many centuries thanks to the work of many sculptors and artistsand it was finally completed in 1744; the front part, in particular constitutes a real jewel of the Gothic-Renaissance."

The real Bellagio

by icunme

Called the “Pearl of the Lake”, Bellagio's world class hotels and restaurants provide the perfect place to soak up the lake's famous panorama. The village is characterised by century-old buildings, stone lanes and picturesque cobbled stairways filled with shops showcasing the finest Italian wares.
