Where to ditch the rental car in the Lake Como area.

by bdelcimm

We will be driving from Lucca to Lake Como in July. We have a 3 night rental in the town of Bellegio. I will be driving up from Lucca in a rental. Haven't decided which rental company -Hertz or AutoEurope. We will be arriving in the Lakes area on a Sat. Could someone advise me on the best place to ditch the car and catch a ferry/bus/ to our place in Bellegio??

Is there anyone out there that would recommend that we keep the car? I've heard that finding a place to park in July is brutal (hotel does not have parking) so I'd prefer to rely on public transportation.

Looks like there are two AutoEurope drop offs in Como. One near train station. Then take the bus to Bellagio, about 1.5 hrs. "C30 Como - Bellagio",Direction: BELLAGIO - Lungo Lago Marconi 12. Try Google maps for Bus station locations and directions once you have a drop off address for your car. We are keeping our car, but going in September. Good luck.

I was wondering if we could take a boat to Bellagio instead of the bus?

Private approach

by Aurorae

Every villa has its own private lake approach, since most of those classy villas are right on the lake. All of them are very beautiful, and many are even public, you can use them to go down to the lake yourself. Youngsters like to stay on the stairs in the summer evenings sometimes...

Where the locals like to jog

by icunme

Venture to Parco Olmo - behind the lakeside of Villa Olmo - and you will see a consistent stream of local Como residents running the paths of the the Park - even more so than at lakeside. Up here in the park they are not dodging bicycles or tourists.

An amazing vilage near Como: TORNO

by MadeInComo

I'can't describe it. Just go there. An amazing little square on the lake side. With a small harbour and a romanic church. It's not a touristy place...you can find the real Como Lake, with fishermen, boats and...persic-fish risotto (try at the Belvedere restaurant, just on the left side of the main square).
Torno it's on the way to Bellagio, 5 km from Como.
Don't miss it.
