Explore Villa Olmo Gardens
by icunme
You will have access to the rear gardens of Villa Olmo - it is great to take advantage of this area - the narrow pathways, the waterway that comes under the road above, the cats that live there, huge tree for which the Villa is named - absolutely hidden gems behind the Villa.
villa Olmo

The name, Villa Olmo, is derived from a magnificent hundred-year-old elm which no longer exists.Villa Olmo was built at the end of the Eighteenth Century. Inside it has a magnificent three floor hall, enriched with stuccoes and wonderful balconies .All this is on the shores of the lake and its garden is now open to the public.
Villa Olmo hosts most of the cultural activities such as: concerts, rehearsals, congresses and exhibitions.

which lake is a better base for hiking?
by NatalieP
Hi!
We are going to spend 4 days in Lombardy, on the lakes. Need advice on which place to choose. We'd like to stay in a camping (mobile home) or hostel/B&B and do some day trip hiking in the forest. We'll have a car. Which of the lakes (D'Iseo, Garda or Como) is less populated and more forested?
Any recommendations? Also, do you know any particular place?

Well,
I think that on the Como lake you'll find a lot of hiking routes... I just went last week hiking there, the Lecco side of the lake offers a lot of very interesting routes :)
Suggestions? oh, it really depends of what you want: you can just walk in the forest or going higher to the top of some mountains, or really climbing on pretty difficult ways to get on the top....
There are two hostels on the lake (I just hear that they are pretty nice):
COMO
«Villa Olmo»
Via Bellinzona 2,
22100 COMO (COMO)
Tel. 031 573800
fax 031 573800
e-Mail: ostellocomo@tin.it
beds: 76
MENAGGIO
«La Primula»
Via IV Novembre 106,
22017 MENAGGIO (COMO)
Tel. 0344 32356
fax 0344 31677
e-Mail: menaggiohostel@mclink.it

This lake is very well known here for hiking / climbing, the others are more for tourists with Hotel and beaches, and at least the Garda lake will be much more crowded.
Have a nice holiday!
Ciao, Marco

Thanks for advice!
We decided to stay in a camping near lake Como for 4 days. Than we'll do a it of "culture" (Verona, Venice and in between), and then will head to the forests again.
:)
I was thinking about Trentino (not sure if I should maybe post in the other forum?). We'll come by train and again would like to find a base for hiking for a few days. Mostly interested in forests and would ike easy access to day-long hikes. What do you think? Should we stay in Bolzano or go to some smaller town? Molte grazie!
