Como S Giovanni to hydrofoil pier
by sdrosea
We will be arriving at the Trenitalia Como S Giovanni station at 4:48pm on 28 June. The plan is to take the hydrofoil from Como to Bellagio. I have 2 questions, how do I get from the train station to the pier? And is 20 minutes enough time to catch the 5:10pm hydrofoil?
Thanks so much!

I haven't made this walk and I don't know where the hydrofoil leaves from, but from San Giovanni to the pier area at the base of town looks like a walk of a few hundreds meters - 5 minutes?
Unless that hydrofoil docks someplace unusual (or unless the train comes late), you should have no problem...let's see if anyone has actually taken the hydrofoil from Como...

having been at both sites, with 20 minutes, probably just best to hop in a taxi. it is probably 10 or more minutes to walk.

it a good walk of about 5 minutes but you must buy the ticket before you go to ship. No worry as if you'll miss the hydrofil you can take bus#25, last one it's about 8pm. Sita bus can be taken close at the station.
Are you going from Milan Centrale I believe...
did you check the train to Varenna? from there there is the hydrofil to cross the lake, it might be more suitable with timetables
In case you're going to Bellagio from Malpensa airport you do not need to go to Milan first, justtake the train at airport to Saronno, then change train to Como. These are trains of FerrovieNord

You see, I knew that if I said something, someone(s) that knew what they were talking about would come along ;-)
That's a good point about the Le Nord train...Le Nord has three stations in Como to the national railroad's one (San Giovanni), and the Lago station is practically on the lake (as one would suppose from the name). The Le Nord railroad comes from Malpensa airport (via Saronno) and from the Milan city center itself (from Cadorna station, not Centrale)...so where are you coming from?

Travel Tips for Como
Where to buy your tickets for the game
by Calcio
There are three small ticket-offices around the stadium, on the outside of the tribunes.
First you must decide which section you would like to sit in, as you can't buy tickets for all sectors at every office.
For a neutral I would advice the smaller longside of the stadium, as the price is cheaper, but you'll see as good as if you were sitting on the head-tribune. Tickets there costs much more.
Have no idea how much the tickets cost now in Serie C2, but you shouldn't pay more than 10-12 euro for a good seat.
Away-supporters stands in the curva, and the Como-supporters that still goes to the stadium stands in the other end of the stadium.
The Tree
by Aurorae
I wonder what was the tree villa was named after like, if it was as beautiful and impressive as this one behind the villa, in its back yard. I also wonder how this tree looks like under the snow cover in winter, if it ever snows in Como!!! Very rarely I hear... The tree and the grass are always green, no matter the season!
The Anchor
by Aurorae
In front of the villa Olmo, at the very lakeside, there is the huge anchor, kind of a monument nowadays, I wonder if it's real, if it belonged to some ship that really sailed in the Como waters. If so, it inded needed a very good anchor, as Como is the deepest lake in Europe, and its bottom is below sea level.
Civility and manners are evident in Como
by icunme
Even the signs here are worded in such a gracious and mannerly way - we see "Rispetta il Verde" - "Respect the Green" - instead of, perhaps, "Keep Off the Grass"...........

Yachting Club
by Aurorae
Another classy spot in Como, only for those with deep pockets - yachting club Como. It's near the Aero Club and since there is a marina, it's a perfect spot for the yachting club. You'll find lots of veeeeery expensive cars parked in front!
There is also sailing school.
