Albergho Lauro: Very Italian - even the locals like it

I found this little hotel (15 rooms) on an internet search. I travel to this destination a lot, but usually stay at the Hotel La Villa. This hotel is a very italian experience as the locals call in to the bar and restaurant on a regular basis. The actual hotel has been there some years and has passed down within the same family but it was completly renovated about a year ago (2009) and is beautifully done. All the rooms are en-suite as you would expect, and the fittings are very high quality. They have standard rooms and superior rooms, which is what I went for, but they also have two junior suites which are a little more expensive, but worth it as they have balconies looking out over the rooftops towards Lake Como. I ate in the restaurant on two evenings (The resort has lots of other restaurants) and the food was excellent and presented in a much higher standard than I had expected. The hotel is situated among houses and has its own parking area. Just a very short walk from the hotel entrance and you are down by the lakeside, so its superbly sited. The one problem I found was not with the hotel actually, but with the bus getting there as the nearest bus stop to the hotel leaves you with a highly dangerous walk along the busy main road to the small street that leads down to the hotel. If you are on public transport, it would be better to walk from the station at Colico, down to the lakeside and catch the boat or aliscafo across the lake to Gravedona as this would alleviate that walk. Overall its a great hotel in a super, non touristy resort on Lake Como
