Dal Pozzo D'Annone: Beautiful Historic Villa
This beautiful historic home belongs to a real count who still resides here. We had a room with the most beautiful frescos, the largest bathroom ever and a patio/balcony with an awning so rain or shine you had the most gorgeous view of the lake which is right across the street. You are greeted by house attendants with white gloves who do not go to bed until they are sure you are in bed for the night and do not require anything else. We actually watched the Palio in the parlor and the count poured us a drink as if we were his guests. Stefania was the travel hostess willing to make restaurant reservations or inquire about anything you might need. The pool is awesome, the breakfast wonderful, a gym is downstairs and the grounds are beautiful.
Historic, still filled with family antiques, picture albums, etc., You feel like you are a guest in someone's home.

Hotel Ristorante Romagna: Baveno / Stressa: almost IN the lake
We intended to stay for a night or two in the area, but this hotel made as change our plans - we stayed for a week. A very beautiful spot. Lago Maggiore is a very beautiful location and we were staying almost on it.
A very smart lady is running the place, she is really helpful. They helped a lot with the kid, the baby sit was ready waiting for us every morning for breakfast and they gladly boiled water for the babys milk everytime I asked. Our neighbours nextroom though, started banging the wall when (just once) the baby cried in the evening, this made me feel uncomfortable, but I should expect it...
A tip if you have very young children - be carefull in the parking area, because the street is just beside and cars go by in high speed.
*THE perfect location on the lake
*Parking just beside the hotel - rear for the hotels of the area
*Children friendly
*Nice restaurant with view, nice garden just beside the lake, where you may have your meal
*Very kind people, english speaking
*Children friendly environment

Camping Isolino: Great place to stay
I stayed in a maxi caravan for two nights in Camping Isolino and I find it the best camping I have ever been to. The caravans are clean and seem to be new, some of them are just 50m from the water and you can watch the lake even from your window, the nature around is beautiful and this camping has good location - close to Stresa with its ferries to Isole, many other nice villages around. Camping has a large nice swimming pool, restaurant, shop, lot of space for your tents or bungalows. In summer they organise different events. When booking you can pay the reservation costs online. Anyway, there webpage is very informative, have a look. I would like to come back there for sure.

CAMPO FELICE: THE VERY BEST.......
We always stay at this camping ground because it is so wonderful.
There is the opportunity to rent a mobile home there and there is also a *** hotel Garni.
We always enjoy staying there!
There is a nice beach, bar, restaurant, supermarket, souvenirshop but most important is that the sanitairy units are so perfect and always clean!
This (expensive) camping ground was cwelebrating its 50th birthday this year 2005......and everyone celebrated with them. There was enterntainment in the evenings ......music & dance....
To please the guests there was a free of charge shuttle bus to Tenero and a free of charge boat to LOCARNO.
The camp site is wonderfully situated on Lake Maggiore!

Hotel Verbano: Best place to stay at Stresa
This picture was not taken by me but I scanned the hotel brochure. I thought it was a great picture as it gives you a perspective of the size of the Island.

Hotel Verbano: Great hotel on an Island!!
We couldn't have asked for more. Our room had a view across the lake to Stresa and the other Islands. The food at the hotel was excellent and every one that worked there were almost like family. The Island, Isola Pescatori, which the hotel was on, was only about a block long by 3 or 400 feet wide. Once the tourist left on the last boat, we had the whole Island to ourselves. I would never dream of staying in the Ritzi, gaudy hotels on the mainland, only at the hotel Verbano. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed every minute.
On an Island. Highly recommend for a getaway from the mainland...

Hotel Cacciatore: Hotel Cacciatore
A tranquil place to stay in a historical old village. Laid back and much more of a local feel than the more well known tourist resorts on Lake Maggiore but still with conveninet ferry access to those tourist places!
Family run small hotel, recently refurbuished now - I think it needed it too as it was rather "rustic" shall we say when we visited many years ago. Cosy garden courtyard to sit in with a drink in the evening.

luxurious: super de luxe hotels
I have never seen so many de luxe hotels like on the banks of Maggiore lake. They are there one next to the another, they are immense, huge, royal decorated, nobless! It really makes the place look very chic and blue blood coloured.
This one you can't see well, but it's right next to the runed old fortress, thus i found the contrast interesting.
