Hotel Le Palme

Great lakeside hotel - built among historic ruins!

We (self, wife and adult son) stayed for two days during the peak tourist season in August 2008. The hotel is located on the Lake Garda waterfront; from the dining area, you can look at the lake and see the fish! Rooms are small - typical of the Italian hotels we stayed at - but nicely appointed. Most rooms have a lake view with a small balcony. The hotel offers a full service restaurant and bar ; food and service were delightful.

This hotel is affiliated with the hotel Splendid Deluxe, located on the main road, about 1/2 mile away. Splendid Deluxe is a bit larger, and offers a few services not available at La Palme including a shared Internet computer and free parking. The hotel staff will shuttle you from Splendid Deluxe to La Palme, giving you a brief but challenging ride through the center of Limone al Sul. This town is built on the ruins of a Roman era farming town, with road sizes to match; the "road" used for this trip is barely able to accommodate a small car, and said road is heavily used for pedestrians! Note that the staff at Splendid Deluxe will make their services available to guests of La Palme.

Each facility has a swimming pool. There is beach access to a small public beach about 1/4 - 1/2 mile away, although the beach was not very appealing to us; it did have toilet facilities but no refreshments, etc. A ferryboat service and a boat rental business are nearby, also.

Besides La Palme's own restaurant there are a number of restaurants and bars nearby. Additionally the town has a number of resort-oriented clothing stores. Despite being at the hotel in mid-August (tourist peak season), service was consistently good.

While arranging reservations, response to my email inquiries was slow, taking 2 - 3 days to respond to each email. Once on the spot, however, the staff was attentive and helpful. The manager went above and beyond the call of duty in helping me solve a lost luggage problem (my problem, not theirs!)

One item to consider; this town is built on a hillside, with streets built in Roman times. Travelers who have trouble walking may find this area difficult. The hills slowed my wife down a bit but she felt that the beauty of the location made it worthwhile.

Unique Quality: A drop-dead beautiful location on Lake Garda, in a quaint little town. Great views from the restaurant and guest rooms.
