Limone Del Garda
"A good base to explore Lago di Garda"
We stayed in Limone on the recommendation of friends, and found it an ideal base for the region. While not as bustling as Garda, Sirmione, Malcesine or Riva, it has its own charms.
The town nestles between the cliffs and the lake, with narrow streets snaking around the steep slopes of the old town. Along the coast and in the flatter regions, hotels and holiday complexes have grown up, but haven't swamped the basic nature of the town.
Limone means "border" in olden, but also lemon, and there used to be a thriving lemon growing business here. The shells of the "Lemon Houses" can be seen on the northern edge of town and in other places around the lake.
