travel to Livigno from London

by Karin30

Can anyone tell me what the best way is to get to Livigno from London? I would like to fly to one of the nearby airports (Zurich or Milan?) and then take a bus or train. Does anyone have any experiences they could share with me? (in particular how long each option takes and what the cost is?)

Livigno is miles from anywhere. It used to be cut off for half the year until they built a new road (in the 60s I think) and that is one reason they have retained duty free status, also I think it was part of the deal to remain part of Italy.

The transfer by coach from Zurich or Bergamo is about 4 and a half hours, I don't know of any normal transfers but there are several holiday companies who might sell you a transfer only.

I suspect you are trying to put together a non package ski holiday, my advice (and I might be wrong) is that Livigno is a good place to go but it is worth taking a package.

If you are flexible with your dates get a last minute holiday there (Livigno is usually available) and it will be a bargain.

I plan to go to Livigno at the end of Janurary. I'll fly from Dublin to Milan Bergamo airport. Ryanair fly to Bergamo from London Stansted, as Chris has mentioned the bus transfer is expected to take 4.5 hours. I believe that some ski companies fly thier customers to Austrian airports and transfer to Livigno, I'm not sure how long the transfer takes. Enjoy your holiday

hi!
if you want you can also take train from milan to tirano (tirano is the last station) and then take the bus to livigno.milan-tirano is about 2.30 hours and to livigno it depends...it's snowed a lot in these days and the streets are iced.
if you fly to bergamo you got to take train to lecco, then tirano and the bus to livigno.
not all the train go to tirano and stop to sondrio, but you can reach tirano and livigno by bus.
livigno is very nice to ski. is one of the best ski area.

So how was your trip? I am looking to go skiing over Christmas myself. Wondering how much the train and coach are from Bergano to Livigno. Any comments much appreciated.

Travel Tips for Livigno

Welcome to Livigno

by Cristian_Uluru

The small town of Livigno belongs to the province of Sondrio, in the Alps. Livigno is very famous thanks its many fantastic ski racetracks which made it one of the best place of Valtellina where to ski!!!! From Livigno become Giorgio Rocca, the winner of slalom specialty 2006.
But Livigno is known also for its particular tax status as duty-free area. Italian VAT is not paid. You can go to buy goods at substantially lower prices, especially tax-free gasoline, but you must pay attention because there is a maximum quota of goods that one can take back at home!!!!!

Enjoy your visit!!!
