Can anybody advise me on how to get to Livigno from Zurich? I believe there is a train to Zernez and then we'd need to catch the bus to Livigno. Where does one catch this bus & do we need to buy tickets in advance, hopefully on-line? Can we expect any traffic jams with the tunnel/crossing the border? Is it advisable to travel from Zurich, or should we rather attempt to travel from Milan? (We can get cheaper & direct flights to Zurich than to Milan.)

You can find out the timetables for trains and buses by going to the Swiss Railways Website. www.sbb.ch. Your starting point is "Zürich Airport", and your destination Livigno. There are buses from Zernez, and total trip time is 3h37 minutes.
Don't worry about traffic jams or queues at the border in that part of Switzerland. You can expect the bus to be on time, unless the weather would be extremely bad (like sudden heavy snowfall...)
You can actually buy a ticket Zürich Airport -> Livigno right at the airport from the ticket office. Price is CHF 75,80 one ways. No need (and no possibility) to book in advance.
Be aware that there is a border control when you enter and leave Livigno. Livigno is a duty free area (cheap alcohol and cigarettes as well as goods) however you are subject to random checks at the border by customs officers. Suggest you have your passports ready just in case.
