Milan to Venice

by Gorkhali

Hi:

I am trying to fit in a one day excursion to Venice -- what is the best way to get to/back from Milan. I understand trains...but which one and how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks

See www.trenitalia.com. Look for Venezia Santa Lucia. This is the train station in Venice.

Yes Trenitalia from Venice to Milan or Milan to Venice I took it both ways and it was great nice train / I think I paid around 30 euros each way but not sure......

The "best" way depends on whether time or money are more important to you. There are a number of direct trains a day from Milan to Venice and back...but the fast ones take 2.5 hours and cost 30.50 euro 2nd class one way while the slower trains take 3.5 hours and cost 14.55 euro 2nd class one way.

So the fast solution will cost 61 euro round trip and require 5 hours on the train while the slower solution will cost 29,10 euro and require 7 hours on the train.

So, what's more important to you: time or money?

Travel Tips for Milan

Must See

The Duomo is the centre point of Milan and one of it's most famous sights. The architecture of the building is amazing and it is definitely one of the most impressive man-made structures I have seen.

Aperitivo - thanks for the free food!

by Henrik_rrb

One very popular thing in the north of Italy is the "aperitivo". Every bar with the smallest part of respect have every day (monday-saturday) an aperitivo.

An aperitivo means a table full of food, pasta, pizza-slices, vegetables, ham, sausages and more and more.

Around 6 pm every day they put out this table for their clients, and all you have to do as a client is to buy a beer or something else to drink. Then you can eat as much as you want of all the food.

It's a really popular thing to do among the milanese people, they finish work, goes out with some friends, have a beer, eat the food and then they go home and are full until dinner late that night.

Important: be sure to don't come to late for the aperitivo, that might mean that the bar is crowded and that the food almost is finished...

Palazzo Litta

by Diana75

The stunning Palazzo Litta was built by Richini in 1648 by the order of Bartolomeo Arese.

White the facade was changed during the years taking the characteristics of rococo style, the rooms are maintaining the original aspect and decoration: the Red Room has the walls covered by damascus, while in the Duchese Room splendid chinese works of art can be found.

Palazzo Litta is housing today offices of the Italian Railway.

Choosing The Right Clubs To Party In

by Krystynn about Club Hollywood, Club Toqueville & Plastic Club

When you visit Milan you should definitely go to one of the clubs on Corso Como.

Corso Como is THE nightlife area of Milan. You can find numerous clubs, bars and restaurants here and I'm sure you'll enjoy them. Personally, I like visiting some of the clubs in this area.

The first and the most famous club is definitely Club Hollywood. During the Milan Moda season (and to be honest, on most Sundays), the place is crowded with models. Sorry guys. These girls usually have their very own V.I.P rooms to party in. You'll just have to contend partying downstairs on the main floor! Besides the models, many celebrities and soccer superstars frequent this joint.

The second club is Club Toqueville - located only 30 meters away from Club Hollywood. Although the club charges the same entrance fee as Hollywood (€15 - €18), the atmosphere here is more relaxed and actually more chic! Off course, you'll still find some models here, so no worries. Guys, you'll still be able to gawk at them... oops, I mean 'people-watch'. ;-) I heard from my Italian party animal friends that there is always some hot party (on Wednesday nights) at the old Fashion Cafe.

If you are a student, you ought to come here to party. Why? The club lets foreign students in for FREE and each week they will choose a country to host a party there. What a nice thought!

Another disco worth mentioning is the Plastic Club. This trendsetting disco stays opened till the weehours. I was here with some friends one night but didn't stay too long.

Metro

by d_d

In Milan, there are 3 subway lines: the red, the green and the yellow.
Red lines is the oldest and connect som of the main center city places.
The green connects all the train stations.
The yellow is the newest and connects some important city points.
It' s small, but works good from 5 a.m to 12 pm.

1 EUR for a ticket.
But you can buy daily ticket, or weekly carnet.
