MILAN - Isola or Fiera

by nataasha

Hi ... I'm a fashion student planning on taking a short course in Milan and I've got two options for a residence. I'll either be staying at the Alahotel Contessa Jolanda or the Alahotel De Angeli. One's in Isola and the other in Fiera. Please let me know which option is the nicer one in terms of comfort and which ones nicer in terms of area and safety. I'd really appreciate any help anyone can offer me ... !!! :-D

Also, I found out that getting to the school from De Angeli means riding the red line, and getting to the school from Contessa Jolanda means riding the yellow line. Which line is safer?

P.S. I'm starting to freak out a little with all the stuff I've been hearing about pickpockets and various crimes around Milan ...

Travel Tips for Milan

... but bull 'sqeezing' is a fake tradition !!!

by Sidecarural

.. you will never see a 'milanese' squeezing the bull testicles!
Check it out: turists from all around the world queing to squeeze the bull, but not one single local.
This is simply a 'turist' tradition, reported on turist guides as a 'local secret tip'... which is simply not true.
And true locals (the 'milanesi') consider a bit 'pathetic' those naive turists doing the bull testicle squeezing exercise....

Palazzo della Triennale

by draguza

Part of the monumental "quadrilateral" comprising the Sforzesco Castle, the Arch of Peace and the Arena, the main entrance of the building faces the Viale Alemagna, an important road that connects the center, Corso Sempione and the thoroughfares of the city towards north-west. To the east the building faces the Sempione Park.

The total area is 12,000 m2, while exhibition areas measure about 8,000 m2. The fascinating and inspiring exhibition rooms are flanked by spaces housing permanent facilities. The ground floor features the "Triennale Gallery" for temporary exhibitions

From The House of TRUSSARDI....

by Krystynn about TRUSSARDI's Marino Alla Scala

Even if you don't wish to splurge on a Trussardi outfit or leather goods, you can still come here to window-shop! The Trussadi boutique (like Spazio Armani) is known as a multistore -They have EVERYTHING here. At designer prices.

However, you can always rest your weary feet at the cafe and sip on a nice chilled wine cooler!

Trainstation in Milan

by shirez

I have spent like almost one hour arranging things in Milan Train Station, that would have been less, if I know where and what to look for.

First of all: dont buy map! there are free ones available at the Turist Ofiice. otherwise maps cost 5-6,50 € at the Kiosk.

Locker: as you leave the trains behind and get to the shop-area, turn right. First 5 hours cost 3,80 €, then count every hour. They make a photocopy of your passport (which I think is not really legal.)

Turist Office: same are turn left and look for the small corridor. Turist Office hides in there.

Metro Ticket: 1€ for each rides. tickets are available at Kiosk.

Toilet: 0,07€, dont leave the area where the trains arrive. if oyu face trains, go on the right side of the building.

Terravision Shuttle Bus: 6,70€, tickets available at the Turist Office, it departs at the right corner of the Station if you stand in front of it.

The oldest and most exclusive Italian restaurant

by yanika_s about Boeucc

One of the oldest and luxurious places in Milan, feeding people from yesr 1848.

This place is well known for the people working and shopping in the area around Montenapoleone. The ambiance is fantastic if you feel like wearing Chanel and pearls or something very classy and elegant, but it does not make you feel bad if you don't wear one :)

And amazing desserts which you can choose by looking directly at them not at the menu.

The place is quite full during lunch time and especially dinner, therefore either book in advance or come a bit earlier than usual lunch time.
