Into Malpensa to Milan Center City suggestions and where to stay.and best way to go

by charlesracine

In September we are flying into Milan Malpensa / MXP and looking for suggestions on how to go to the center city. Looked in the internet and could not determine the best by train, taxi or bus. Also, looking for a 4 star hotel in a good location. We will be traveling out of the Milan Central Station to Venice. I have been there many times on business so, not really tourist savvy. Is the city tour good?

Thanks in advance, Chuck

'Best' depends on your personal circumstances.

Taxi is most expensive, but probably most convenient (although it can be affected by traffic congestion, of course).

Bus may be easier to manage with luggage than train to Milan Cadorna + Metro, depending on where you are staying. But buses can also get snarled up in traffic congestion.

Look at the official airport website for more information:

http://www.sea-aeroportimilano.it/en/malpensa/index.phtml

Click 'connection' on the left-hand menu.

Whilst you are waiting for specific recommendations I suggest you look at www.venere.com for hotels. It lists almost all Italian hotels. It is reliable, with honest guest reviews (which can only be posted after a stay booked through the site has been completed) and good mapping. www.booking.com is also reliable with honest reviews.

Can't help with the city tour, sorry.

Hi!
About quick city tour in Milan I'd suggest "Piazza del Duomo" and "Castello Sforzesco" (about 1km North West far from "Piazza del Duomo").

I usually suggest to reach "Piazza del Duomo" by underground "Line 1 (red)" or "Line 3 (yellow)" depending on where you are located. Underground is not so dangerous but it's better you take care of your wallet.

These are the most wanted sites in Milan by tourists anyway, depending on time you want to spend in Milan, I'd suggest to take a look on

Travel Tips for Milan

Piazza Duomo

by croisbeauty

In occasion of this visit to Milano, last week in July, I couldn't enjoy in magnificient front side of the Cathedral because it was under the major reconstuctions works. As far as I was told, this works will last a couple of years because the facade of the Cathedral is in a very bad conditions.
Well, I cannot say I was disappointed, because I've seen it already many times before, it just made me feel "no this is not my Milano the town I knew".
Not only the Cathedral, but whole area around Piazza Duomo looks much different now, something is missing badly. I always wonder myself, how much longer this kind of beauty can stand our easy-going ways!?

Graphiti

by croisbeauty

"Berlusconi, Bossi e Finni, finirete come Mussolini"
Eviva la democrazia!
Sorry folks, this is written in Italian and assigned to my Italian friends.

Clothing Emporium

by TRimer

Corso Como 10, is a large bazaar with a selection of clothes and home objects from all over the world, eclectic and unusual, many collected by the owner, Carla Sozzani, including slippers from Morocco and rugs from India. Have a drink and/or snack in the bar, and check out the art gallery upstairs with a constantly-changing exhibit.

Nightlife: If during the day...

by teo_italy

Nightlife: If during the day people work hardly, it's also true thet they want to make their night crazy and happy. Milan infact is one of the Italian city with great nightlife. I suggest some zones where you can go if you want to enjoy your night: 1)BRERA: Very next to the center, this is a pedonal zone full of resturants, pubs and little local where you can drink all you want. The streets are full of ambulant whit CD and gadgets (and simil-original wear products). Here there are some discoteques (but they are a bit little). 2)NAVIGLI: (The best for me.) In this zone there is a concentration of pubs, resturants, discoteques, and all you can expect from a nightzone. Two ways along the canals of Milano (Naviglio and Darsena).
Here the night never die. 3) Corso COMO - V.le PASUBIO
That two ways are next to the railway station 'GARIBALDI'. Here there are tipical resturants and pubs. Some of there are very famous as the LoolaPaloosa (where you can dance on the tables). Here there are olso some discoteques as the most famous of Milan: The Hollywood, it's not very big but all the VIP came here to enjoy their night.

Metro

by ratherton

The Metro is an excellent and cheap way to get round Milan. The trains were very clean and I don't remember ever having to wait very long for one to turn up. In the evenings that gates were open and we could use it without paying.
