Best way to go from Milano Centrale train station to Via Mar nero

by qzaman

hello again my wonderful VT friends:

On the last leg of our trip, me and wife would be arriving in Milan by train
from Venice. From the train station we have to go Via mar nero (wife's brother lives there).

Any suggestions about the means of transport (apart from taxi of course :) ).

Thank you all for your so kind help and guidance.

I think that if I was on my first visit and not familiar with the whereabouts then I may choose to use the Metro Line 1 and combine that with a little walking. This would not involve any transfer of lines.
So at the Centrale rail station terminus (I assume your train will arrive at this station) which is on the eastern side of the city you need to go to the western side.
So if you can walk easily to the nearest METRO station on Line 1 which is LIMA and then take a Metro train going west to finish at BISCEGLIE station (the end of that particular line) this would involve a journey of about 16 stops and maybe 45 minutes or more.
From Centrale station you walk down Via Vitruvio - but it's possible to take a bus.tram.taxi but if you are happy to walk then may take 20 minutes. At the end of the line at BISCEGLIE presumably your family can meet you at the station ?
You can get a better idea of the route on this:

Or contrary to what the recently "downgraded" ATM Milano website claims, you can take the underground directly from the central station (yellow line no.3) and get off at Duomo, where you can change onto the said red line no.1 to Bande Nere. From there you can take bus no.67 to Via Forze Armate and Via Mar Nero is in the area.

Actually the ATM website will show you the last part of this route the way I described it, but won't tell you to take the underground from Centrale, rather than walk to Lima, as the previous poster suggested. It's around 10 minutes walking, so you might want to skip that.

Hope this helps

Travel Tips for Milan

Arriving Milano

by Erkmen

Milan has two airports Malpensa is the main one and linetta as the sub..

Malpensa airport is just an hours drive from Milan, where Lineta is almost near to the center. Most international flights are landing to Malpensa airport.

Before going to Milan I have checked what is the best way to reach milan center. There are many tips about it, but still confused which is the best way.

When you are out from the baggage claim what you will see is on the picture..:)

Pro-Tibet child

by Mikebond

During our stay in Milano, there was a pro-Tibet demonstration across the main streets. Many people waved Tibetan flags, but I didn't succeed to find where they got them, so that I could get or buy one, too.
The most beautiful image of that peaceful and colourful protest was this little boy in his stroller, surrounded by Tibetan flags, and his father with a Tibetan cap. I found them very sweet!

Palazzo delle Stelline

by Diana75

This interesting palace is located on Via Magenta, on the other side of the street from Santa Maria delle Grazie.

The palace's name was given by the orfan girls called "stelline" which found shelter here around 1600, following the demolition of the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria della Stella.

The Palace is housing today a hotel, a congres center, the French Cultural Center and the Stelline Foundation.

Brew Pub

by alessandro71 about Birrificio Lambrate

This is the best place in Milan for drinking homebrew beer. It has been open on 1996 and as far as they produce beer, they are improving his taste. I like very much "Montestella" (lager beer) and "Ghisa" (stout beer). Most of the customers are university's students but you can meet there people from all over the world.
Very good and cheap happy hour starting from 18.30 till 20.00. No dress code.

Tourist tram

by croisbeauty

Actually I can't tell you much about this tourist tram, from where it starts (I guess from Largo Cairoli), what is the route or how much it costs, because I din't use it. I saw it only by chance when approaching by foot to Castello Sforzesco.
It is an old tram, nice coloured and looks just great. In theoccasion of my next visit to the town I'll take a ride with.
