  • Disappointing on so many levels

We arrived after navigating Milan's challenging downtown. You will be charged an absurd 30 euros per night to park in their garage. The bellman helped us to our room with our luggage; it was terribly warm. He adjusted the thermostat to the coolest setting but it made no difference in the temperature. We had to open the windows throughout our stay to cool down.

We decided to get cleaned up a bit and look for a market. Take note that the toilets do not flush that well (#1 or #2 for that matter). We returned from the market with a few cheeses and sliced meats and found a quiet nook with a few tables and chairs near the lobby. After opening our packages, an employee (we later were informed this was Fabrizio the bartender) stormed in and told us we had to return to our room to eat. We attempted to discuss this with him but he stomped out of the room. This dreadful service was reflected throughout our stay. This hotel had no restaurant so we were not impacting their income.

We attempted to use the "high-speed internet" but it was useless. We came to the lobby with our laptops and the employee said the problem was with our computers (we had no problems at the previous hotel in Venice). We had two IT executives in our group so this was especially insulting. He later said that many guests complained about the lack of internet access and offered us the name of a cafe with wi-fi access. We attempted to watch TV but less than 10 channels were available. The front desk said it would be upgraded soon (but many other reviews reference the lack of internet access).

The bathroom had an absurdly small modular shower that is too small for an adult. Be prepared to bang your elbows and knees while showering. There were also ashtrays on each of our bedside tables. Are they seriously encouraging guests to smoke in bed? Perhaps they would rather burn this hotel than upgrade the employees and amenities.

While passing though the lobby during our stay, we noticed more guests with their laptops at the front desk. I assume the employees blamed the lack of access on the guests' computers. We also received more surly glares from Fabrizio the bartender. I can't believe that someone with such poor interpersonal communication skills is employed in a service industry.

While checking out, the credit card machine wasn't working and took several swipes to complete. This dysfunction was a fitting end to a stay plagued with so many problems.

Trendy, cozy and delicious

by Herkbert about Pane Vino

Found this nice little restaurant just up at the corner of Largo Carrobbio and Via Cesare Correnti while walking back to our hotel, and decided we'd check it out for dinner that evening. The place was very nice indeed. Cozy, yet chic and trendy - very much what we thought we'd find in Milan.

They have an excellent wine list and plenty of delicious food choices. Our waiter was quite an interesting character, very friendly with big dreams for the future. He was also very helpful with our Italian lessons while we were ordering.

We started with an antipasti of salami and cheeses, followed by primis of pacchiere with mozzarella and artichokes and pappadelle with prawns. Our meals were both delicious.

The price was reasonable, the food good and the conversation was entertaining.
