Just good for one night stop...

    by

The area isn't attractive, but this hotel offered a decent room rate and it wasn't too far from the Mediolanum Forum (formely known as Datch Forum). Room is fine for one night but walls are paper-thin, so don't forget to bring your own ear plugs. Corridors smelt of cigarettes. I'm not sure they have non-smoking rooms.

Breakfast was a continental buffet with cereals, croissants, pains au chocolat, sweet rolls, biscuits, etc. No hot meals. We had the impression we were being surveilled all the time, since the woman would always come to see what we were doing (not sure if it had anything to do with our arrival*)

*The only problem we had was with the reception on our arrival. The guy wanted us to leave our passports with him while we would pick up our car. We are very careful with our personal belongings, especially with our IDs (I'm not European, so I would have a huge problem with something went wrong), so we'd say we would wait for it. The guy got upset (ie. bordeline angry) and thought we were being suspicious of his actions. He wanted to assure us, nothing would happen with our IDs, but he wouldn't listen to our arguments (he was all alone at the reception, considering the neighborhood, someone from outside could have easily gotten inside and stolen our papers), so he got angrier (he said had enough and didn't want to hear us any longer and he actually told my husband that it might be because he was French and he, an Italian employee, you know the rivalry thing) and photocopied our passports, handed us the originals. It was a bad vibe after that. I don't think we're coming back here.

Unique Quality: Close to A7. Free parking.

    Great Budget Hotel

    by

When we came to Milan we were on a budget. Hotel Dei Fiori was totally in our price range. The hotel is situated right next to the Famagosta Metro Line, this was about 10 stops from the Central station (green line) and about 5 stops from Cardona Station where we used to get off for the Duomo.

So the decor wasn't hip and trendy, but it was clean. It had a mini bar and tv with a few satelite channels. The walls were a little thin so through the night you could hear people going to the loo but that wasn't really a problem.

Another bonus to this hotel was the breakfast - like a buffet style continental..it was lovely

Unique Quality: The reception staff made the stay really. They were really helpful. On arrival they gave us a map and highlighted where to go etc. And understood our pityful italian.

Directions: Just by Famagosta Metro Stop

Check out the Hotel Zurigo. It's in a good location for walking and wasn't too expensive last time I checked. But things change!
