Attractions question

by kennyboi

I am wondering if Monumental cemetery is a touristy thing to do? It seems a bit weird to visit a cemetery, but i heard it has lots of art/sculptures. Do the locals like tourist visit there or is it not a nice thing to do?

As for shopping, where abouts I can shop for genuine branded hangbags and souvenirs without the touristy mark up near the Duomo?

Any good place to recommend for lunch near Duomo without a hefty price tag?

Thanks

There are people who like to visit cemeteries because they want to visit the places where famous people are buried, but there are also those who do because they love statues. If statues are among your interests it is worthwhile to visit the Monumentale. There is a website with a map that can help you locate the most interesting points: http://www.monumentale.net/

About shopping, I cannot recommend a place for souvenirs, but for bags I suggest RJ Outlet. For directions to the shop see the website http://www.rjoutlet.com

You can have an inexpensive lunch at Autogrill. It is in the Duomo square, at the corner with Galleria Vittorio Emanule.

Another possibility for your lunch is the Food Hall in La Rinascente store. It is on the 7th floor and there are several choices, including a proper restaurant and a place for 'slow food' panini.

Hi, it is not strange, a lot of tourists do that.
Shopping: the best is: "corso Buenos Aires" (corso is like avenue), but it's very crowed and touristic. To go out the touristic circuit go to "corso XXII Marzo" (XXII means 22 in latin)(quite cheap) or "corso Vercelli" (a little more expensive). But if you want an hangbag I can tell you a Factory: leather hangbag at very low prices, italin design, very good products, but not branded. The factory usually sell them to commercial brand (like prada etc.) and they put their logo. The name is: Maxima Srl Pelletteria; the address: Via Orobia 11. Tel number: 0039-0257309880. Come and ask for buying something even if it's not a retail shop. Push a little bit and the guy will sell you whatever you need.
To eat near Duomo: go to "pizzeria le cento pizze" Piazza Santo Stefano 12 - 02.76014209

Travel Tips for Milan

Spend time in and around the...

by AgentJX

Spend time in and around the Duomo, it is the heart of the city, and there are things for every type of person to see and do in the few blocks surrounding it. Staying there long enough to adopt a true fondness for the city, and the neighborhood where I lived. I got to the point where I no longer felt like a visitor, and could call Milan my home. The duomo and surrounding streets offer the best of Milan, site-seeing, people-watching, shopping, dining, and almost anything else you can think of.

The derby played between the two football teams Milan and Inter is known as Il Derby della Madonnina. It was named so because of the the gold statue of the Madonna which sits on the top of the Duomo.

Temple of Victory

by croisbeauty

In memory of the sacrifice of over ten thousand Milanese who perished in World War I, this Temple of Victory was erected in 1927-1930 after a design by Giovanni Muzio. The marble sanctuary is in the shape of an octagonal tower.
The temple is situated right behind the complex of Sant' Ambrogio.

So funny and great place!!! There are 3 rooms with different kind of music, but this third was closed when I was there. One room is with the house/electro music and other, smaller room is with different '80ies music, trash pop (mostly Italian). It's not very easy to enter the club if you are not homosexual or if you don't know the people. We were waiting for about 5 minutes and then we entered the club. Entrance is 20 Euro (about $26); with one drink inside. I was very tired that day but the music was so funny and great so I forgot that I am tired. Amazing! Be crazy and unique! Everything is allowed!

Bus from Malpenza to Central Station

by muratkorman

When you arrive in Malpenza Airport, you are quite far from the city center. Taking a taxi will cost more than 50 Euros and few people would be keen to pay that much money. The cheapest way to reach city center is to take the shuttle bus which operates regularly. In fact there are 2 different shuttle buses which also differ in price. Both have the same route and both operate regularly, but one of them has a promotion for 2 people and the fare costs cheaper if you are not travelling alone. There is a stop in Fiera and Centrale and the shuttles take you to both terminals. The price per person will cost 5 to 6 Euros depending on which shuttle service you take. The whole journey takes about 50 minutes.
