Doing Stresa from Milan

by srivastava

I would like to do Stresa from Milan. What is the ideal time to spend in Stresa? My preference would be to return on the same day.

What to see in Stresa?

Re: Doing Stresa from Milan

by Manara

It takes one hour to go to Stresa by train from Milan, so it can certainly be done in one day. For instance you can take the one at 8.25 in the morning and take the train back from Stresa at 18.31. These are trains from and to the Stazione Centrale. There are more trains from the Porta Garibaldi station, but the few times I took these local trains I found them in a deplorable state of repair.
About the things to see and do in Stresa, one of the greatest attractions are the Borromeo islands. A visit to the Isola Bella and/or the Isola Madre is a must. I have updated recently my VT page about Stresa, because I was there 10 days ago, and I have written tips also in my VT pages on Isola Bella and the Lago Maggiore. If you search these destinations on VT you will find several good tips by VT members.

Travel Tips for Milan

Il Duomo

by croisbeauty

Not many of churches in Italy underwent such a slow building process as Milano's cathedral, the work actually went on troughout five centuries, and the original Gothic style was never abandoned. It was, in fact, through the cathedral that the High Gothic style from beyond the Alps made its way down to Milano and henceforth infuenced the whole country.
The cathedral, dedicated to Mary, was actually begun in 1387 over the site of the 9th century basilica of St. Maria Maggiore.The chief engineer was Simone da Orsegnigo who was aided by several Campionese Swiss masons. The Gothic schemes, however, in the hands of the Italian architects lost much of their Northern flavor and acquired a more typical Italian feeling. Simone da Orsegnigo was surrounded by a crew of great stonemasons: Marco of Campione, Matteo da Campione and the greatest of all, Giovannino de Grassi.......

World fashion center

by croisbeauty

Those who are traveling to Milano shouldn't bring too many bags of cloths with, because it is the leading fashion center of the world. There are so many shops and stores in Milano offering different kinf of cloths and shoes in regarding prices and quality.
Those who cannot spend much should visit the stores in Corso Buenos Aires, those who doesnot care for the prices should go in Via Montenapoleoni, Via della Spiga or Corso Vercelli. Bring your own medical supplies if it serves for the special treatment, oterwise not because all you need is available in Milano. Same goes for your camera There are a very good stores in Via Zara, nearby Sesto San Giovanni.

YSL - The most beautieful store on this planet!

by abstract_diva about Yves Saint Laurent

THE MOST STYLISH STORE IN THE WORLD! Imagine a YSL-Runway over 2 floors! It was all in black with "special" wood decorations and fur + the entire store was scented in an interesting, sensual smell. And the Sales-Personal was SO FRIENDLY! We came in and they instantly asked if we wanted a refreshment and test the "In Love again refreshment fragrance" - which smelled really good. We`ve been there quite some time, were shown things and discussed YSL-matters. And when we left without buying something THEY WERE STILL FRIENDLY! High Fashion, Luxury 400 Euro and up

not so Shocking!

by Flamegirl about Shocking Club

I came here one Tuesday night and had a fun evening between buffet, dancing and fashion show. Luckily we entered free but full price is 17 euros. Nice nightclub but nothing really special; a bit costly for what's on offer.

Main dancefloor isn't huge but there is some space to sit around the sides. Another bar and more space up in the gallery. The music was a good mix at least.

Milan's Subway (Metropolitana)

by Diana75

Milan has 3 subway lines:

- M1 - red line going from Sesto to Rho Fiera and Bisceglie (splitting after Pagano station) and stopping to Cairoli, Cordusio, Duomo and S. Babila;

- M2 - green line going from Cologno Nord to Abbiategrasso and stopping to Stazione Centrale and S. Ambrogio;

- M3 - yellow line going from Maciachini to San Donato and stopping to Stazione Centrale, Montenapoleone and Duomo.

The 80km subway network is perfectly connecting all the important points of the town and is easily accessible.

The metro runs from 5:30 am until 11:30 pm (00:30 am on Saturdays) and all the stations are usually located close to tram and bus stops.
