Great Price in NE Milan

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 2, 2013

La Residenza turned out to be a find and nice play to stay. Unfortunately the hotel is located quite a ways from central Milan. It is located in the northeast area of town off of the Affori Centro Metro stop. From the metro stop the hotel is about a three block walk and will take five to ten minutes depending on the weather and how much luggage you are hauling.

The hotel bills itself as a green hotel. This translates to the fact that they try and use energy efficient light bulbs, low flush toilets, recycle most of their waste, and that the food for breakfast is largely, though not entirely, from the immediate region.

The rooms themselves are small but pleasant. We ordered an upgrade to a superior room which contained two double beds and a small refrigerator. The room was very clean and the shower worked wonderfully. There was even a/c for the time of our journey, something many hotels refuse to put on until the more intense heat of summer.

The breakfast was outstanding. A very wide selection of breads, cakes, eggs, meats, juices, fresh fruits and coffee. It was one of the best breakfast buffets of the eleven hotels we stayed at in Italy. We left each morning satisfied and full.

What was truly amazing about the hotel was the price. An upgraded room was only 68 euros a night plus city taxes. This was about two thirds of what we paid for a not as nice hotel in Rome.

Directions: From the Milan Central Train Station, take the metro north to Affori Centro.. Right outside of the metro stop there is a small sign pointing towards the La Residenza hotel. The walk will take you five to ten minutes.

Emergency stay............

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on February 17, 2008

A scary emergency landing at Milan Linate meant Easyjet had to find overnight accommodation for 150+ stressed people. And it was this hotel we ended up at (I suspect the returning Japanese Prada/Gucci-shopping guests were a little stunned by the arrival of so many dishevelled people at 9pm!).

I wanted to write a tip, because I was impressed by the way the hotel handled the whole thing. They had no more than an hour or so's notice but check-in was swift, rooms were clean, warm and well-equipped, a meal (with wine, thank goodness!) was provided out of nowhere (not brilliant, but I doubt I could scrape up the makings of a meal for 150+ people with such little notice!), an early-morning wake-up call led us down to an early-morning breakfast with good coffeejuices/cereals/bread etc etc. And everyone was so polite and helpful that it really made what could have been a nightmare scenario into something bearable.

The hotel is clean and pleasantly decorated, in a quiet area well away from traffic noise (I believce there is a fair amount of greenery around, but it was too dark for me to see). If you're happy to be away from the city centre (it takes a while to get there) then I think it would be a good choice.

Unique Quality: They cope amazingly well with emergencies!

Directions: It's a long way out from central Milan, so you'll either need a car or be prepared to use the bus then train every day (journey takes about 30 minutes, I believe).
