Malpensa-Milan-Como Cheap accomodation

by MalenaN

I’m arriving in Milan, at Malpensa airport on a Saturday evening at 20.20. My destination is Como, but I guess I’m arriving too late to take public transportation to Como, so I need to stay a night somewhere and then I will take a morning train to Como. I’m looking for a cheap accommodation (a cheap hostel with a dorm bed is to prefer over a single room at a more expensive hotel). Do I have to go to Milan to find this or can I find it near Malpensa, or Saronno (that’s where I have read you change train if you want to go from Malpensa to Como). Or is there another convenient place near one of the train stops? Any good recommendations?
I have searched on Internet.

You are aware that there are two different rail systems in that part of Italy, yes? If you go down to Milan (an hour in sort of the wrong direction), you'll have to take the Ferrovie dello Stato (Trenitalia) back - this is the national railroad. Note that the FS has only one station in Como: Como San Giovanni.

Otherwise, LeNord (http://www.lenord.it/en/index.php) is the private railroad that runs around north of Milan, and it is the one that changes at Saronno and goes to the other three station in Como (surprising to have 4 stations in such a small town ;-) )...using LeNord would certainly be more efficient, since you can take their train to Saronno from the airport, then change and continue on to Como, and not take the detour to Milan...

Hey, you're arriving at 20:20 at Malpensa, right? LeNord has trains leaving from Malpense to Como (with change at Saronno) at 20:53, 21:23, and 22:23 - it seems to me that you have to be able to make one of these (probably the 21:23 one), and that you'll be able to get to Como that evening....look at the schedule at the LeNord website (Milan branch) and see if that works for you...

Ah, I just checked again and several of the connections are by bus from Saronno to Como, but since LeNord is selling you the ticket, making the connection shouldn't be a problem...

if you want something cheap avoid Malpensa and Saronno areas.
unfortunately there isnot anymore the direct bus from Malpensa to Como, but 20:20 is not too late, you'll be able to arrive to Como, why not?
http://www.malpensashuttle.it/mxp-mil.htm to railwaystation, saturday night there will be light traffic and then train to Como. If you book in advance and tell them you'll be late, I believe it won't be a problem as Saturday and most of the hotels are nearly empty.

Thank you very much for the replies. I'm happy to see that I can reach Como the same night.
I did not know there were two different railways from Milan!

Travel Tips for Milan

Castel Sforza

by Klod5

Carrying the name of Francesco Sforza, the impressive fortress spreads on several hectares.

Surrounded with brick battlements dark red, nearly violine, it is punctuated regularly of towers. Inside, an immense court, then more far from the yard, inside the walled surrounding wall...

For sportsbook

by Henrik_rrb

If you like books about sports there is just the shop for you in Milan! A store full of books and videos, only about sports!
Books written of the football-stars, book with all the statistic from Serie A, Premier League, La Liga from the beginning until today, or the video with all the goal from Robert Baggio.
Most of the books however are in italian, and those who are in english cost more. A lot of money, once started, you can't stop buying...

Gucci

by abstract_diva about Fashion and leather

The store was stuffed with "rich tourists" - "Jet-Set-Moms" in Dior with their spoiled daughters, rich arab women, japanese tourists etc - bad atmosphere! But the store is LARGE and has all Gucci one could ever want in a SUPER-STYLISH decoration over 3 floors. But beware of the arrogant Sales Personal!!! Runway Fashion!!! Shoes from 350...Rest: the sky has no limit ;)

Trying to get a place...

by Henrik_rrb about Pitbull

Corso Como isn’t only the famous discotheques, there are also some really nice bars.

One of my favourites is the bar Pitbull, in the middle of the street. Unfortunately I’m not the only one who likes this bar, so you might have to stay in the line for a long time before you could enter… One of the few bars in Milan that has guards at the doors.

The beer and drinks are quite expensive, around 8 euro for a beer isn’t something I like, but the place is nice so then I guess you’ll have to pay that extra.

Good place to start the evening at, before moving on to one of the discos. Or a good place to stay for the whole evening, as I’ve also done… Hi Patrik and Pilar!

In that case, from my own experience, I can tell you that it might be quite hard to find the toilet… But follow my advice to take the left door, and not the one in the middle, and you’ll find the toilet instead of the cleaning room… Dress as you want, or maybe I should say; dress as you want to be able to enter a discotheque later...

Stazione Cadorna

by croisbeauty

The easiest and the quickiest way to get to Malpensa airport, and vice versa, is by the city train express. This is Stazione Caderna, the train station from where the train starts to Malpensa and vice versa, where the train is coming from the airport. The station is situated on Piazza Cadorna, you can't miss it coz there is a giant needle and thread monument coloured in various bright colours.
