The Milan Marriott

The rooms were very spacious and nice but it was a bit too stuffy. You'd think if you can afford to stay there then that's all that should matter but we were looked down on regularly because we were dressed in tourist clothes rather than dresses and suits!

I would not really recommend staying in this hotel.

American style Hotel

The Marriott Milan was a wonderful place to spend our honeymoon. They even upgraded us to a suite on our third night there just for being on our honeymoon. The quality of the hotel is excellent. Even our room service was great. The staff there is very friendly and they all speak great English. The concierge service was of the utmost help to us with finding our way around town. They provided us a Mercedes taxi ride to the airport when we left with a very nice and SAFE driving valet. It has a very American feel to it. The restaurant serves an American style breakfast every morning. We loved staying there and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Unique Quality: Wonderful balconies in the suites. Great food in the room service. VERY HELPFUL CONCIERGE. Everyone spoke English fluently.

$120 per night for two in a room The price was good about $120 per night for two in a room. This included a full American breakfast. They had free use of the internet in the lobby. (something my neice loved)

Honeymoon in Milan

"Art"

I have a bachelor's degree in Art History, so Milan was definitely on my list from the start. Seeing The Last Supper was unreal on proportions that I cannot even describe. We got in on the Autostralade Tour that operates out of the TI in the Piazza Duomo, which guarantees you entrance to The Last Supper. You are only allowed 15 minutes inside at a time, so really soak it up while you can. The Last Supper requires reservations, which can sometimes be booked weeks in advance. People stand outside for extra tickets.
The Brera Gallery and The Ambrosiana Gallery are both fantastic. I liked the Ambrosiana better because it had a better layout with a better map. The map was in English too. They were much more accomodating at the Ambrosiana. The Brera holds many important pieces, but I felt that it was too consumed with Altarpieces and diptychs for my liking. The Ambrosiana has a Botticelli, and Leonardo, a Raphael, and a Caravaggio to name just a few. It is a real "one-stop-shop" for Italian Masters. Plus, in the adjoining Library, they house Leonardo's famous Codex Atlantica.
Don't miss the Sforza Castle's impressive collection either. Not only do they have an impressive Egyptian collection, but they also house Michelangelo's last unfinished sculpture.
If you are an Art Historian, do not miss Milan. It has a lot to offer!

"Shopping"

Milan is well known as being the Fashion Capital of Europe and it really delivers. Milan's Fashion district is quite impressive..with every Italian designer being represented by a store. Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Roberto Cavalli, Valentino, etc. all have a store in The Fashion District. It is really a can't miss. We didn't even go in any of the stores, but looking in the windows was enough for us. Milan also has a thriving shopping district for the more moderately priced goods. We went to H&M more than once and got incredible deals. If you enjoy soccer (football), Milan is the place to get your gear. We highly recommend "Football Team." My husband played college soccer and he made me visit there more than once. Plus, there is no tax on clothing, so it is a really a steal. I enjoyed the Perfume stores on every corner. I wear a Dolce and Gabbana scent and it was MUCH cheaper in Italy.

"Food"

Milan is a great place to eat! The fresh salami and prosciutto alone are worth visiting for. Our favorite restaurant was called "Pace" and it was on Via Washington. It is a old style Ristorante with an antipasta bar. We ate there twice and thoroughly enjoyed not only the food, but the incredibly nice and helpful staff. The quality of Mozzarella cheese was unbelievable. Our room service at the Milan Marriott was also incredible.
Near the Duomo, the food is more commercialized, but they speak English better than in the farther out parts of town. Everyone was very helpful in Milan when we ate at restaurants. The only bad experience we had was at a place called "Playoff." It was an American themed football (American football) pizzeria. The food was incredibly bad. My husband ordered a pizza with "wurstel" thinking it was pork sausage, by the way that the waiter described it as "steak" "pork". It turned out to be be a pizza with cut up hot dogs on it. Yeah, it was gross.

travelling in milan

We will arrive in milan centrale station from bolzano. Need to know the travelling time to Milan Marriott hotel and approx. cost by taxi.

By the way, are the key places of interests eg Duomo/Last supper painting by Leonardo far away from the hotel?

Lastly, we will head to Malpensa airport for our trip home. Any possibility to take trains from the Marriott hotel to the airport or we have go by taxi?

Thanks

there is a special airport bus to Malpensa from central train station

Taxi from Milano Centrale to your hotel would be about EUR 20, I think. Your hotel is not in the city center, rather it is near the Fiera. There is easy bus and metro transport into the center (where the attractions are), and you could get from your hotel to the Duomo in about fifteen minutes. On your way to Malpensa, you'd best take a taxi back to Milano Centrale and then take an airport bus (EUR 5 per person) to the airport.

The Airport bus has a stop at the Fiera itself, but I think you might to have request it in advance. I've taken that bus many times but I've only seen the bus stop there on the way BACK from the airport, not TO the airport.

You can also take the Malpensa express train, it leaves from Cadorna & not from the Central station, it leaves every half hour & takes 40 minutes, it costs €11.00 If you decide to go with the bus remember to leave time for traffic.

Thanks for the tips. Now we are able to work on our travelling options.

Cheers and have a great week ahead!
