Art Nouveau Milan
by draguza
There are several hundreds of Art Nouveau buildings in Milano, among which " Casa Donzelli" and "Casa Dugnani", via Saffi 9, built in 1902; here the Liberty style is evident above all in the upper part of the building: the facade is painted with various flowers on the last floor windows and with ceramic frescos reproducing sunflowers
Il Naviglio
by prunila
This area, Porta Ticinece, is very romantic and special.
I recommend to go there if you have time, and you have already visited the must to see monuments, if you are a poet, an artist, an photographer, …
It is quiet peacefull and you can find good restaurants,
Happily next time I will be there at a friends house and then I will write better tips about Il Naviglio.
I recommend this book (see picture):
Milano. Il fascino dei Navigli
with pictures of Angelo Cremonesi
(Selecta, Milano, 2002)
Dress up your home
by Manara about SIMTA
When people shop, in Milan, they usually think of clothes for themselves, but often do not know that this region has a long tradition in manufacturing the highest quality textiles in general. This shops sells textiles for the home, curtains, armchair covers. There is a great variety of styles, from the very modern to the traditional. An idea for an Italian touch for your home could be covering a couple of cushions with a Renaissance-style velvet. Quality does not come cheap, so you can pay 70 euro for a piece of cloth of 1 metre by 3.
Quick, Cheap and Fast - Use the Metro
by stefano99
Buy a daily Metro ticket (valid up to 24 hours from purchase time) for 3 euros and travel around Milan quickly. I prefer it to using the trams as they can tend to get stuck in traffic or a protest march (seems to be quite popular). The Metro lines are color coded to make navigation easy, this also includes the actual metro stations which have their signs in the color corresponding to line they are on (useful at junction stations).
Milan train stations
by Diana75
Milan has 5 important train stations: Stazione Centrale, Milano Lambrate, Cadorna, Rogoredo and Garibaldi.
Stazione Centrale is the main station, while Cadorna is the central-city destination for the shuttle train from Malpensa airport and the other three are used for regional links.
Beside the above mentioned train stations there are other smaller stations used for short distances rides, like Piazza Genova Train Station used for the links with the city of Alessandria.
