Can somebody please tell me if they have stayed at The Berna Hotel close to the central station, and tell me what it is like and if it is a good hotel to stay in.
Thank You

I did stay there back in June in a triple room. It's very convenient, pretty clean, and has good wifi access. The room is a tad on the small side though. The breakfast was not bad either - got a pretty good selection of food and drinks. The staff are also quite helpful. I guess it depends on what you're looking for - the decor is a bit older than some of the other hotels we stayed at.

Travel Tips for Milan

A Heavenly Park

by tpal

This is one of my favorite pictures of Carol from our trip to Italy. I can't be sure but in my mind Carol is saying to herself, "Here I am sitting on the marble ridge of the roof of the Duomo in Milan Italy. How cool is this?" Well, it's pretty cool!

This is a magnificent cathedral but then there are a lot of magnificent cathedrals in Italy but how many times do you actually get to basically turn the roof of one these places into a park. In the first place, it's really huge. People are strolling around, sitting and talking, taking in the sights, having lunch and generally just chilling out. I don't think there was ever a moment when the designers of this building ever conceived this kind of usage but what a wonderful experience.

Tsk! Ask Proper Questions Please...

The Milanesi (if you haven't already discovered it yourself) are really a very nice bunch of people with exquisite taste in dressing and business sense. They are also very cultured, with a great sense of humor and many do speak excellent English - especially those that work in a
multi-national corporation (MNC) or financial institution. However, even nice people do have their limits....

For example, DO NOT ask why the Duomo was built so close to the Metro. To put it mildly, let's just say that by the time you + them are finished with the conversation, the DUOMO will be closed for the day. Kidding. But I'm sure you get my point. Yeah, it's a very sore point for the Milanesi when they discovered that the government decided to build the Metro almost at the doorstep of one of the world's most important monument, il DUOMO.

And now that I know the reason, I'm upset too!

Take a trip to lake Como a short train ride from the city.Como is beautiful, with little steamers to take you across the lake, some nice restaurants in the main square and a funicular railway to take you up the mountains that surround the lake.
When we were there they even had water boats landing on the lake.
Why not stay the night at least.

Public Transport

by Flamegirl

Public transport is quite good in Milan. the daily travelcard, or "giornaliero" is good value, for €3 it lasts 24 hours from when you first stamp it (you MUST do this!) and can be used on buses, trams and the metro within the city of Milan. However the metro finishes just after midnight and buses around 1am, and there is NO night transport (only taxis which are expensive!), hence many Italians *do* drink and drive (and crash, which won't surprise you once you see their driving).

A useful website is www.atm-mi.it, in both in English and Italian.
