Milan Public Transportation: Bus - Tram

by coconutwireless

I will arrive at Malpensa on May 1
To get to our hotel we were given the following public transportation options:

First option: take the Airport shuttle Bus to Central Station and connect with Bus #60 to get to Hotel.
Question: after departing the shuttle at Central where do I find bus #60?

Second option: take the Malpensa Express Train to Cardona station and take tram #27 to hotel.
Question: after departing the Malpensa Express Train at Cardona where do I find tram #27?

In both cases you will find the bus / tram outside the station you arrive. If you want more information about which exit to take:
1) the airport bus arrives at the Central station on the south side. You will notice tons of taxis and if you go inside the station there is an information desk where you can ask. Should that prove unsatisfactory, there are a number of hotels on this side of the station, where I would ask the receptionist.
The public stop for trams and busses in Central station is on the front (i.e. the western part) of the station.

2) Cadorna: At the station there will be staff you can ask and most likely a newstand who generally & involuntarily acts as information desk. They will direct you to the right exit.

Here a link to a map of the ATM public transport network

and this is the official information site for public transport: http://www.atm-mi.it/en/Pages/default.aspx

Hope this helps.

I would suggest taking Malpensa Express train to Cadorna, which is quite a small station for regional trains only.
It is very easy to find your tram: just go out of the station and you see the tram rails and stop. You can also view how it looks by writing "Piazzale cadorna" on google maps (maps.google.com) and then zoom it until the Street View function shows you the actual images of the station and the rails. Anyway, it is really easy to find it. You just need to know the direction to take.

Travel Tips for Milan

GIVE IT A MISS

by JohnnySpangles

Difficult to think of a favourite thing as it's an incredibly dull place, unless you like shops. There's better places to visit in Italy. The only thing to brighten up your trip would be to make sure you're there when there's a football match at the San Siro stadium.

Italian habit

by muratkorman

Eating and drinking means a lot to Italians. The lunches or dinners can be really long as Italians take it so seriously. For this reason, prepare yourself for long meals. Moreover, Italians have a perfect taste of food and they know how to select the wine to accompany it. Once you are involved in Italian cuisine, things will never be the same again.

Monument of Giuseppe Garibaldi

by croisbeauty

The monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi stands in the central position of Largo Carioli, the huge open space right in front of Castello Sforzesco. The monument was placed here in 1895 and is work of the sculptor Ettore Ximenes.
Giuseppe Garibaldi, 1807-1882, is the most significant person in the history of the Italian people. Known by his personal courage and tactical intelligence, he managed to defeat Bourbons and have unificated the peninsula in one state known today as Italy.

Cinema (in the Winter...

by Ruthy2001

Cinema (in the Winter especially) There is something I love about going to the cinema in Italy, especially on a cold Winter's night, Im not sure why, if it feels festive, or if its just the novelty of watching a film in a foreign language.

One particularly nice cinema, if you get into sala 1 or 2 is the Odeon (believe it or not) right beside the Rinascente at the Duomo as it is very grand and the room feels rather like a theatre.

If you are an Enlgish speaker the Odeon usually shows one film in the English language on a Monday night and only in the Winter. The best thing to do is check one of the free papers.

Stazione Cadorna

by Mikebond

If you want to travel from Milan to the North-West of Lombardia (Como, Varese), to the Malpensa International Airport or to some Piedmontese locations (like Novara), you will probably take a train from the Cadorna station. The trains leaving from this modern railway station, rebuilt in 1956, are not run by the Italian railway operator Trenitalia but by the Lombard operator LeNord ("Northern Railways").
Cadorna is also an important metro station, served by lines 1 (Red) and 2 (Green).
