Taxi from Malpensa to Milano downtown

by cameron1978

We are travelling to Milan in April - two adults and a toddler. I guess, with the luggage and all, taxi would be the best option for us to get from the Malpensa airport to central Milan. Can anybody ballpark how much a taxi trip would cost? I mean, are we talking 30 euros or 300 euros? Or what?

70 euro, as I recall...it's a distance of 50 or so kilometers.

Note that a posting at the Fodor's website now says that people are getting quoted 80 euro now...(unless it's a fixed fee, it should be on the meter, not what anyone quotes you)

Still, it MAY be your best bet depending on luggage and your financial state...as I often say, when you arrive in a town (tired and laden with stuff) and when you depart are the two times not to be too cheap.

Note that the bus is a straight shot to Milano Centrale. If you take it (see www.sea-aeroportimilano.it for the airport's website, which will lead to bus and train fares), then you'd probably take a taxi from the train station to your hotel anyway, but now at least you'd be on the edge of the city center, not 50 kilometers away.

I hope this helps with your decision making...

The bus is a comfortable coach, and will be easy enough with luggage and toddler:

It's your choice, but if cost is any sort of issue then I'd suggest you get the bus (and then a taxi to your hotel) rather than a taxi all the way from the airport.

You are certainly looking at 70+ euro for taxi all the way, I think.

The taxi fare is 85 euro now. It is a fixed one - more expensive than the metered rate, which should be some 45 euro. The night fares are twice as expensive for the metered rides and I expect the night taxis to charge about 170 euro, too.

It is quite expensive compared to the bus of 7,50 per adult. A taxi within central Milan will probably cost some 5 euro in daytime and 10 during the night. So it does make a difference.

If you decide to take the bus from Terminal 2 (I have no idea where you will land), try to beat the crowd at the bus stop. Sometimes the bus arrives quite full from Terminal 1 and only a handful people board at T2. Stay right next to the sign for the bus stop - the drivers tend to stop so that the door is close to the sign. Especially in the evening, missing a bus is a very frustrating experience, at least for me - one has to wait some 15-20 minutes to catch the next one.

Hope this helps

If I read it right, no one mentioned the Malpensa Express train to Cadorna station. Staying downtown and not going necessarily to Milano Centrale train stations it would make more sense than the bus...
