Gelato - Sirmione
by rubbersoul75
As soon as you enter the town thorough the castle, “gelato ally” is straight ahead on Via Vittorio Emanuele. Immediately on both sides of the pedestrian road are about 6 different Gelaterias, selling maybe 20 flavors each. We didn’t sample all, but it all looked good. Some of these places also sold panini (flat bread sandwiches) and pizza. A cheaper alternative to the towns’ generally high priced restaurants, and perfect to grab and eat along the water.

There's a few places to hop in the water to cool off on the Sirmione Peninsula. You’ll see signs for the public beach (Spiaggia - see next tip). This is located on the east shore, not to far after you enter the town.
I'd continue past this area, walking along the path that parallels the shore. Go about a ½ mile (km or so) to some areas that are less crowded, and great to go swimming. For about 30 meters or so from the shore, it is shallow flat rocks that you can walk on, some come out of the water and you can sit and be dry- have a picnic perhaps. On the way out, you’ll pass a dock for hotel sunbathers, then a little food stand, continue a little further and pick a spot to test the waters. See the travelogue with more photos of this area-

"Love the red roof tiles!"
The sun kissing the red roof tiles and the blue blue sky ... sigh .. it s something I just love ... must be because our roof tiles mostly are grey .. boring!
And the houses in Sirmione are so nicely grouped .. creating lovely patterns ...
This is part of one of the towers of castle Scalighiero, it s just a lovely combination of forms and structures.
