2 WOMAN ARRIVING IN MILAN AND WANTING TO VISIT SIRMIONOE AND VERONA ON OUR WAY TO ROME.
ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A DOABLE ITINERARY? WE LOVE TO WALK, WE ARE NOT PLANNING ON HAVIG A CAR, BUT WOULD LIKE TO ENJOY A MUCH AS POSSIBLE FROM THIS LOCATION.
WHAT SUGGESTIONS DO ANY OF YOU HAVE FOR A WONDERFUL EXPERIENC, WHAT HAVE YOU LIKED?
HELP PLEASE.

Hi,
Absolutely no need to have a car...
From Milan to Sirmione, use the train.
You need to get to the station "Desenzano del Garda/Sirmione".
Different types of trains travel this route, try to go for a "Regionale" train since it is often not much slower than the much more expensive "Intercity" or "EurostarCity" trains. Schedules here : www.ferroviedellostato.it
From Desenzano-station, use bus line 26 to get to Sirmione, schedules here :

(if you really really love to walk, it's : 9 kilometers)
To get to Verona, go back to the trainstation Desenzano. Schedules in the same place www.ferroviedellostato.it (the remark about preferably using "Regionale" trains is valid here as well).

well the good news is that verona is on the line from milan to verona. sirmeone is also a good place to visi along the way. i understand that you do not have a car but the train will get you where you want to go so consider taking the train from milan to the places you want to go.

Sirmione, the area of peninsula

The old core of the town is situated on peninsula which penetrate deep into the Lake of Garda. The old part of the town is turned into the touristic resorts, such as hotels, restaurants, shops, and it is strictly non traffic area.
At the top of the peninsula there are remains from Roman period called "Grotte di Catullo", a must see. Besides the stunning beauty of the place, it is definetelly gelato (ice-cream). There are several pastry shops on the Main street which offers top quality ice-cream.
The church of St. Maria Maggiore

Don't miss to visit the smal but Beautiful church of St. Maria Maggiore, from the 15th century. The late Baroque styled church was built on the site of an pagan church. There is an beautiful porticoe with columns in front of the entrance to the church and the first column from left is of Roman origin dating from the IV c. B.C. known as "Miliario di Giuliano l'Apostata.
