Quiet and well positioned
Hotel Al Lago is highly recommened to those who are travelling by car, it is situated in a close vicinity to the Lago di Varese, small lake which used to be devastated but now clean and nice place for seiling.
The whole area around the hotel is very quiet and yet only five minutes by car from the centre of Varese.
Unique Quality: The hotel is completely renovated, new restaurant was added, rooms are much better than year ago, especially the bathroom and in short time small park will be finished right beneath the restaurant. Instead of 80, what I paid year ago, single room costs now 100 euros.
As you can see on the picture, there is parking place for your car right in front of the room.

Christmas at the Palace
I fell in love with this charming hotel on site. Upon entering the luxe lobby we were treated with kindness and elegance. Before you leave the lobby you should take just a moment to turn around and look behind you. You will see a motorcycle parked inside The owner of the hotel is also the Manufacturer of motorcycles. I do not remember the brand just now. I will add that later.
To the left of the lobby is the internet area open to use by guests for a nominal charge as of 1/1/05.
On the right of the lobby is a lounge area and a bar.
The restaurants and banquet facilities are directly behind the lobby.

UP OR ON THE ROCKS
Fabulous Hotel. I strongly recommend Hotel Varese. This is a charming old Palace hotel with small yet nicely appointed rooms. Ours had a balcony you can just make out the Italian flag hanging from it. The Bathroom is graced with marble and a balcony. This view faced down the mountain overlooking the town of Varese.
Unique Quality: The entrance to this beautiful hotel was quite dramatic for a flatlander such as myself. You begin to drive straight up an incline and suddenly there is an extreme cutback in the mountain to take you up,up,up to the next sharp S curve. As you carefully manuever around you get an awesome view of the rocks below. Up again still further and you are rewarded with a breathtaking Park like scene. The Palace Hotel, obviously very grand in years gone by has been kept to a high standard in this era as well.

free cycles and free internet!
Unique Quality: two wonderful free services ( after you pay the fairly upmarket rates for this more than worth it hotel)
free common internet access in the lounge....which was rarely busy when i was there......after all who would wanna surf when you'd rather be out enjoying wonderful wonderful varese town , the varese lake and the sanctuary of Sacro Monte !...but still a nice service when you want to shoot off those emails!
and to go to these places what better way than to bike it there...the hotel provides cycles(no charges...you'd probably eat more when you get back!)....( the ride to Sacro-monte can be a little tiring.....and you may prefer to take the bus or cab it! )
moreover the hotel is on a small hill so if you wanna go to the town below and don't have your own car....... the cycles are handy
--- but it could also be a pleasant 10-12 minute walk down a winding road to the town below if you'd rather prefer that!
When i was cycling around.....and it being the "holy "month of the Tour de France (july-2004)....there were lots of cyclists who seemed to be apparently on tour here!.....(are there no speed limits in italian towns!!!??)

very nice buffet spreads
the food was wonderful too...if you're a meat-eater like me....very stylish italian culinery lots of variety.......and the inhouse icecream was fabulous
If you are enlightened in life and an animal activist.... it's better to give them a little buzz earlier on ...they are only too happy to dish up something vegetarian ....even pizzas....and rice..
the buffet timings are pretty strict though ....so be on time for the meals if your planning to opt for the daily spreads
there is a very nice bar too.

A BEAUTIFUL PALACE HOTEL
A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE......SYLVIAN SURROUNDINGS...LOTS OF PRETTY FLOWERS (JULY-2004)......LUSH GARDENS.... AND ON A HILL OVERLOOKING THE BEAUTIFUL VARESE TOWN
Unique Quality: The rooms are great , very comfortable and functional....., however a word of caution...on a floor the rooms all have different layouts...so you may wanna check out the room before you shift in......i stayed in room 301...which had this huge bathroom a nice mini-bar, an AC and a "wonderful wonderful" view!
some of the other rooms on the same floor were a little smaller and without the jacuzzi I had in mine.
The prices given below by croisbeauty are accurate...i was staying in the 180 euros room...i was very satisfied.
Croisbeauty says he gets to stay there for ? 85 euros!...(through his company and since he is a regular there)....lucky guy!
The staff at the hotel are pleasant and very helpful.
Please note that it is a good 30-35 mns away from the milan-malpensa airport by cab (A8 highway)

Palace Grand Hotel was built in the beginning of the 20th century in Art Nouveau style. It is situated in the city of Varese, on the top of the hill surrounded with an imposing and quiet park.

Unique Quality: Hotel offers great restaurant with excellent cuisine, cafe-bar with open terrace where one can spend his free time in very relaxing atmosphere and huge parking place. The only troublr you might have during the winter time if snowing. In that case, lieve your car in the city garage (as I do) and get to the hotel by taxi.
Thanks to my Italian partners I have a special price in economy class which cost me € 85,00 per night.
