Hotel Collegio Gentile – charming & central

If you have “followed” my tour through middle Italy chronologically, you might know by now that Gubbio made me aware that I am not at all capable to drive and more important to park “Italian”, even if I had this tiny rental Fiat Punto. So I was looking for a nice hotel with parking nearby. My guidebook mentioned Hotel Antico and luckily I found a parking spot (big enough for my abilities) near the bus station and started to walk to the hotel. No hotel anymore, that’s what the sign said, but mini apartments. But opposite of this building I saw a sign “Collegio Gentile” and a nice smiling lady wiping the glass doors. She might have sensed that I was looking for a hotel and waved me inside. I asked if she has a single room for 2 or 3 days and she said yes and pointed to the price board – 55 Euro only. I was pleased (happiness no. 1), she got my data and gave me the key. When I arrived in my room, I was pleased again (being pleased no. 2) – spacious enough, big bathroom and quiet location to the rear courtyard. She said that I can park the car at their parking nearby. When I brought my car, the German in me thought that there won’t be space, but then I learned through arriving Italians that there was sufficient room, so I dared to put my car next to them. But to make sure that I won’t get towed off or get some scratches in the rental car from others, I checked with the nice lady at the reception. She smiled, told me, it is all right, but if I want to be on the safe side, I should park the car in their courtyard. This was pleased no. 3 and I really felt in heaven. Of course the conversation wasn’t in English, but she managed to understand my Spanish and I roughly followed what she wanted to tell me. Plus – smiles are always the best communication method. And it smelled lovely when I came back into the house after having placed the car.

Well, but apart from a nice spot for my car, the hotel is really lovely. It is a longish building, only 3 floors, all terracotta coloured tiles on the floors and wood inside the rooms. The room has minibar and TV, a big desk to put my notebook and write and lovely typical Italian blinds at the windows. The bathroom was spotless clean, shower, bidet, toilet and sink.

Breakfast was served as a buffet with several kind of bread and croissants, cold cuts, cheese, jam, yoghurt and cereals, selection of teas and a coffee machine with several types of coffee.

Unique Quality: The hotel is located in a quiet area of Fabriano and it takes only 10 minutes to walk to the centre.

Directions (as I might run out of space with the 255 characters below, haha):
On SS76, drive east until the bus station is on your left (west), Turn left here into Via Felice Cavalotti and take the second one to your left = Via Cavour. The hotel is located on your right, the long building.
