Travel Tips for Alba

Old city with young children

by JLBG

Though Alba is an old city, it is not a "museum" town and even the old city center is fully inhabited by citizens of every age. There are several schools and though they are in the pedestrians only zone, the road warning sign, mainly designed for cars are there, in case a busy pedestrian, walking too fast, might injure children at play !

Chestnuts !

by JLBG

Besides mushrooms, autumn is also the season for chestnuts. Together with France, Italy is renamed for the quality of its chestnuts. As you can see on the first photo, they are sold under various qualities, depending of the size.

Look on the second photo how the small "marroni di Venasca" are 2 euros per kilo while the larger ones are 3 euros.

The third photo shows again chestnuts but this is not why I put it here. Look at the baskets, they are made of chestnut tree wood, sliced in very thin strips,4-5 centimeters wide, that are plaited in the same way than wicker but these baskets are both lighter and stronger.

Napoleone e il Piemonte

by JLBG

At the Piazza Savone end of via Vittorio Emanuele flows a fountain and a large banderole is stretched across the street. The first photo, taken from via Vittorio Emanuele, shows Piazza Savone and a more modern part of the town. The second photo is taken from Piazza Savone and shows the whole length of via Vittorio Emanuele, with several "torre". The third is a close-up on the banderole that announces a special exhibition from October 29th 2005 (not yet open !) to February 27th 2006 on Napoleon and Piedmont, with new master pieces being found. That should be interesting ! May be we will come back to visit it as it is only a 300 km drive from home !

Day Trip to Alba

by Jetgirly

"A Day in Alba"

We went to Alba with one objective: to eat the local specialties of the area, such as the much-loved truffles and red wines. We were not disappointed, finding an adorable small town with a busy market, lots of restaurants and cafes, shops selling local delicacies and glamourous people out for their afternoon stroll. Alba is the perfect place for a day trip out of Torino!
