Sun dial
by JLBG
On the front of a house, an advanced sundial is supposed to give both the legal time (ora legale) in Arab numbers and the sun time (ora solare) in Roman numbers. It is supposed to ! Actually, I wonder how it could achieve it when there is a summer legal time and a winter legal time. Though, it was built recently as it is written in the top right corner Mauro Borio fecit, agosto 2000 (made by Mauro Borio in August 2000), at a time when these two legal times had already been introduced.
Porcini nostrani
by JLBG
Wow, "Porcini nostrani", (homeland Bolets), lying on the chestnut leaves coming from the very trees under which they grew. This is mouth watering ! Of course, you need to enlarge the photo to taste them better !
They are Boletus edulis, called Porcino or Brisa in Italian, Cèpe de Bordeaux in French and Cep or Penny Bun in English.
On the second photo, you will have a closer look to the blond species You have not enough ? I have not and want some more ! Look at the third photo, there is more cepes that I ever saw at the same time ! And sooo fresh ! Yummy, isn't it ?
However, if you are a long way away from home, you cannot buy these and bring them home, then the last photo is for you (and what it shows). This is no bags full of dried bolets that you can easily bring back home, given that your country allows importation of mushrooms. If this is not the case, you will have to taste them here !
Il Palio degli Asini
by piccolina
October is time for the annual donkey race in Alba, a zany medieval festa. In 1275, Asti was finally able to defeat its long-standing rival, Alba. While the citizens of Asti have since commemorated the event with an annual horse race, those in Alba instead stage a donkey race, complete with medieval pageantry.
Via Roma
by JLBG
Via Roma is perpendicular to Via Vittorio Emanuele, or better to Piazza Savona. It seems to have built at the end of the 19th century. The part closer to Piazza Savona is lined with portici with thick square pillars in a more or less Greek inspired style (first photo). The second part is of a different style, with more elegant circular tall columns. Anyway in both parts, the houses are obviously wealthy as the design of the wooden doors (third photo) shows.
