Vai del Campeggio, Bussoleno: A Most Welcome Find....

Such a pleasant suprise, this small municipal site in the middle of the pretty town of Bussoleno. Due to radiator problems with the van, we had no option but to hole up here for a few days while the raditor was sent to Turin to be re-fettled. Well, things couldn't have worked out better, as this was a gem of a site, as far as socialising was concerned.

Every night we met the rest of the campers (a great mix of nationalities) under the site awning, which was a large social area, sheltered from the incessant rain. Here, we all drank gallons of good, cheap Italian wine and on the last night a party was held with cooking on the "Hot Rock." Great fun. It really did rain a lot and we were actually grateful to be stuck in one place rather than on the move. Motorway driving and mountain passes in the torrential rain are not much fun.

Part of the site is a static site, made up of various abandoned vehicles with funny little outdoor kitchens. Some even had outdoor kitchen sinks!!! The tourers are at the opposite end of the site and although in the centre of the town and surrounded by private houses, it was remarkably quiet.

Gino, the proprietor, didn't speak English but did speak French which we managed to get by in. He was a great character and couldn't have been more helpful. One day, a large motorhome attempted to leave, only to find itself well and truly embedded in the mud. No problem. Gino called his son who arrived in a 4 WD and promptly pulled it out.
Electric hook-ups, showers etc. but all fairly basic.

The town's wooden carnival train was parked up on site and it was actually very useful for Nick to attempt to mend the radiator in, under shelter. Also useful for drying coats and clothes in and Philip enjoyed playing about on it.

The whole experience was just great, a real Italian find.

Fairly reasonably priced for Italy.
