Claviere's overpriced 3* hotel
This does not deserve its 3* star rating. The rooms are very small and hideously decorated in green and orange paint. The furniture is old, sparse and functional, with no easy chairs only a single folding chair. There was no table - only a non-horizantal shelf. The Sky tv was the only sign of any attempt to modernise the bedroom. The hotel charged 2Euros a day, just for turn on the Skt decoder and failed to warn clients of this charge. The bathrooms by contrast are modern and well-equipped.
There are no public room as such, only the restaurant and bar which double as a living room and dining room for the manager and his extended family, which includeds two young children The television is on non-stop. There is absolutely nowhere to sit and relax after skiing.
The ski room is not a room at all. It is essentially the staircase leading to the external side door, where a rack for skis and a heated boot rack have been placed. At the top of the stairs right infront of the door to the hotel interior there is a single chair.
The security leaves much to be desired. There is a rack for room keys which is completely unsupervised and is just inside the back door. This door is left open during the day so that anyone could come in and take a key.
Most of the food is microwaved or reheated from frozen. There is no choice at all on the set 1/2 board menu. The breakfast buffet was a hit and miss affair - sometimes there was fruit, sometimes not. For two mornings it did not even exist and all we were given was a plate of ham and cheese and some rolls. When the manager was absent, the waiter did not even bother to take the milk and orange juice out of their cartons. On our last morning we had to leave at 6.30 to catch an early train. The manager said that he would provide breakfast, but it would be too early for the buffet. When we came down at 6.30, the restaurant was locked. He had not even bothered to get up!
This was fairly typical of the attitude of the staff - relaxed and fairly friendly, but making little effort to please their guests.
This hotel is poor value considering the facilities and the unprofessional way in which it is managed.
Unique Quality: Great position opposite the ski-lifts.
Wi-Fi worked well.
